Job Description

The Department of Architecture invites applications for one Practice Track Assistant Professor position in Architectural Design.

The Department of Architecture in the College of Design and Engineering is ranked among the top 10 in the world, and Asia’s best in Architecture/Built Environment, by the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings (2025). It offers the professionally accredited Master of Architecture programme as well as a range of graduate and undergraduate programmes in related fields such as urban planning/design, landscape architecture and conservation. The faculty is correspondingly diverse and international. The Department offers internationally competitive remuneration, generous employment benefits as well as access to research funding for both junior and senior academics. International applicants will also receive subsidized housing at Kent Vale, a faculty residence on the NUS campus.

Qualifications

The Research by Design (RxD) program within the Department of Architecture is seeking an exceptional and highly qualified architect to fill the position of Assistant Professor in Practice (non-tenurable). This position is tailored for a practicing architect who has significantly advanced the boundaries of professional architectural practice through impactful, real-world design work as well as creative practice experimentation. The ideal candidate will have an established reputation for pushing innovative design solutions in both professional practice and public engagement. We are looking for a candidate with a proven ability to translate complex professional design challenges into the academic studio setting, enriching student learning with real-world insights. Ideal candidates should have a robust portfolio that exemplifies leadership in architectural practice, demonstrating excellence in both the conceptual and technical aspects of design. This role is for someone who can leverage their professional experience as a teaching tool, bringing valuable insights from practice to inform the academic curriculum. We are also looking for a candidate with strong commitment to leading and translating industry connections and practice knowledge into public engagement opportunities for the Department. A Master's degree, alongside experience in notable academic settings, is a prerequisite for this position. The successful candidate will teach and lead design studio courses, as well as contribute to and lead broader program development through mentoring, public engagement, and collaboration with colleagues.

  6. Portfolio of work showing major projects and relevant forms of professional practice. This should be accompanied with a statement of professional accomplishments and how they are relevant to the position advertised.
  7. Names of four referees with contact details (who will be contacted only if shortlisted). Please highlight any who is a member of your Masters/PhD dissertation committee.
