Description
The Department of Art at Stony Brook University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Printmaking and Drawing, to commence in Fall 2026. We seek an emerging artist-scholar whose creative practice and teaching demonstrate a strong foundation in printmaking, with the potential to bring new perspectives and approaches to the field.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a deep understanding of both traditional and contemporary printmaking, with proficiency across relief, intaglio, lithography, and screen printing, as well as fluency in emerging practices such as digital printmaking, laser etching, hybrid 2D/3D print processes, and sustainable, non-toxic studio methods. An MFA or equivalent terminal degree is required, with evidence of teaching excellence at the university level.
The successful candidate will sustain and develop the full printmaking curriculum, while also contributing to instruction in drawing. They will teach across the undergraduate and graduate curriculum, from foundational courses to advanced studios and graduate-level seminars, and will supervise MFA students specializing in printmaking and drawing. They will be expected to develop new courses that bring contemporary innovations and eco-conscious approaches into the curriculum, and to foster connections between printmaking and other areas such as Media Arts, Cultural Studies, installation, and socially engaged art. In addition to teaching, the role involves student advising, graduate mentorship, curriculum development, recruitment, and active participation in departmental service and leadership.

- Teach two courses per semester at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including foundational drawing and a full range of printmaking studios.
- Mentor and supervise MFA students in printmaking and drawing.
- Contribute to curriculum development and introduce new courses that reflect innovations in printmaking and its intersections with other areas of art.
- Participate fully in the academic life of the department, including critiques, exhibitions, and service.
- Maintain an active creative practice, with professional exhibitions, projects, and related activities.
