Position Description

The Faculty of Kinesiology & Physical Education (KPE) at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure stream appointment in the sociocultural studies of physical activity and health. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor and will begin on July 1, 2026.

Qualifications

Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in Kinesiology or a relevant social science field (e.g., sociology, health studies, cultural studies, environmental studies, gender studies, critical race studies, Indigenous studies, queer studies, critical disability studies, media studies, policy studies) by the date of appointment, or shortly thereafter.

Strong qualifications include:

  • Demonstrated excellence in research and teaching
  • Experience or training in intersectional anti-oppression approaches (considered a strong asset)

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Conduct innovative and independent research, developing an externally-funded research program
  • Demonstrate research excellence via publications, presentations, research funding, and recognition in the field
  • Teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, providing opportunities for student research
  • Maintain a teaching dossier demonstrating excellence (teaching philosophy, sample syllabi, evaluations, or other evidence)
  • Contribute to service through engagement on Faculty-related committees

Applicants will be assessed based on scholarship, research, teaching, and service, as well as their fit with the Faculty’s existing strengths and collaborations.

  • Recent writing sample
  • Teaching dossier (statement of teaching philosophy, sample course materials, teaching evaluations or evidence of superior performance)
