Description
The Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary invites applications for a 2-Year Limited Term position in Organizational Behaviour and Human Resources (OBHR) at the Assistant Professor (Teaching) level. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2026, or at a mutually acceptable date.

- Completion of the highest rank of academic training (e.g., PhD, DBA, or other relevant doctoral degree) in a related field is desired.
- Evidence of effective teaching in OBHR at the post-secondary level.
- Experience using active teaching approaches, with demonstrated qualifications in integrating experiential and land-based (including adventure-based) learning into curricula.
The appointment requires evidence of teaching excellence and relevant professional experience. We particularly value a demonstrated record of effective teaching across undergraduate and graduate programs within a business school, together with the ability to engage in a range of pedagogical activities. The role also requires staying current with pedagogical practices and OBHR content, especially in leadership education, and contributing to service expectations.
Typical Courses and Teaching Context:Faculty members in OBHR teach a variety of undergraduate and MBA courses, including core offerings and electives. The successful candidate will contribute to these courses and play a key role in advancing experiential learning within them.
A significant component of the role involves contributing to the Haskayne Adventure Leadership programming and working collaboratively with Dr. Julian Norris, Director of Haskayne Adventure Leadership Programs. This includes seeding OBHR courses with short-term, land-based experiential activities, such as reflective practice, team-building exercises, and sustainability-focused leadership challenges, as well as extending immersive, place-based leadership courses like the Haskayne Wilderness Retreat and Leadership Expedition. These programs draw on Indigenous ways of knowing, sustainability principles, and outdoor leadership pedagogy to cultivate values-based leadership.
Expected Duties:
- Teaching core undergraduate and MBA courses in OBHR, with an emphasis on leadership.
- Integrating adventure-based and land-based experiential learning into existing OBHR courses through activities such as reflective practice, team development, and sustainability-focused leadership challenges.
- Developing and teaching immersive, land-based leadership courses within the Haskayne Adventure Leadership portfolio.
- Collaborating with colleagues on curriculum development and pedagogical innovation, including the enhancement of experiential and land-based leadership education.
- Contributing to service activities within the Haskayne School of Business, with particular attention to advancing innovative leadership education.
- Participating in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) and/or discipline-specific research in organizational behaviour, including peer-reviewed publications, development of shareable teaching materials, and dissemination at academic or professional conferences.
Teaching Load:The normal teaching load for this position is four course equivalents per semester (eight courses per academic year), encompassing a mix of core OBHR courses and experiential leadership programming.
