The Department of Biological Sciences www.bio.udel.edu in the College of Arts and Sciences seeks a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in the area of Biological Sciences. We encourage applications from highly creative individuals who seek to establish an externally funded, vibrant research program in areas including, but not limited to, biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, biophysics, biomechanics, physiology, and immunology. Applicants with diverse research interests including those using and/or developing cutting-edge approaches to understand and quantify biochemical and biomolecular events in time and space are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in biological sciences and share our vision to be a department that is nationally recognized for high impact research and for delivering an exceptional education across biological sciences.

The successful applicant will be part of our NIH-funded Delaware Center for Multiscale Biomolecular Sensing (DCMBS) Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE): (https://sites.udel.edu/dcmbs). The DCMBS COBRE will support multiple new faculty across collaborating departments with opportunities for joint appointments, provide research infrastructure, and support faculty success with mentoring and funding opportunities. QUALIFICATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: We are seeking exceptional candidates who are eager to work in a collaborative environment, have demonstrated research excellence, have the drive to be leaders in their field, and are high-quality teachers and mentors. Candidates must have a doctoral or equivalent degree in biological sciences or a related field, postdoctoral experience with significant publications, and a strong commitment to both research and teaching. The successful candidate is expected to: 1) develop and maintain a nationally recognized, externally funded research program; 2) train BS, MS, PhD students, and postdoctoral scholars; 3) teach undergraduate and graduate level courses; and 4) serve on committees that support department functions and academic programs. The successful candidate will also contribute to departmental activities including retreats, chalk talks, and seminars.

BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES AT UD: The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Delaware is within the College of Arts and Sciences. Faculty in Biological Sciences have world class research programs spanning a wide-variety of areas, with strengths in understanding the molecular and cellular mechanisms of human diseases, using various vertebrate and invertebrate model organisms. The Department boasts outstanding facilities and support, including a new state-of-the-art research building, a vibrant collaborative research and teaching community with 37 faculty members, and a robust graduate program with approximately 90 graduate students in the MS/PhD programs. The University offers a highly interactive multidisciplinary scientific environment with state-of-the-art core facilities in bioimaging, genomics, bioinformatics, proteomics and other areas (https://de-inbre.org/core-facilities/). We also enjoy close relationships and opportunities for innovative clinical and translational collaborations with faculty at the UD College of Health Sciences, Nemours/Alfred I. du Pont Hospital for Children, Thomas Jefferson University, the University of Pennsylvania, and others. The campus in Newark, Delaware provides a vibrant college town centrally located along the I-95 corridor between NYC/Philadelphia and Baltimore/Washington, DC, with easy access to nature preserves, parks, rivers and the Atlantic beaches.
