Position Description
The McGill University Department of Equity, Ethics, and Policy within the School of Population and Global Health in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and the Department of Philosophy in the Faculty of Arts are inviting applications for a full time joint position at the rank of Assistant Professor (Tenure Track). We welcome applications from outstanding scholars whose work explore the ethical challenges posed by the development and dissemination of emerging or contested medical technologies (e.g., vaccine hesitancy, genomics, precision medicine), especially as they intersect with disinformation and barriers to care for marginalized communities.

The McGill University Department of Equity, Ethics, and Policy and the Department of Philosophy encourage applications from candidates whose applied research draws on any combination of bioethics, philosophy of science or medicine, clinical research, or public health to inform policy and practice aimed at advancing efficient, equitable, and trusted health policies and health services interventions.

The Department of Equity, Ethics, and Policy (is one of the three departments within the School of Population and Global Health at Canada’s internationally renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec. Our dedicated team of experts involved in diverse academic activities and translational research are committed to providing an interdisciplinary environment that aims to produce cutting-edge and impactful research on issues related to Ethics and Policy for the improvement of population health and health equity locally, nationally, and globally. The Department offers a vibrant and inclusive research environment attracting diverse students, staff, and faculty.

The Department of Philosophy, housed in the Faculty of Arts, is a pluralist, research-intensive unit that includes strengths in ethics, political philosophy, logic, and feminist philosophy. The Department emphasizes rigor in argument, clarity in expression, and intellectual generosity, preparing their community of students and researchers not only for academic success but also for vital interdisciplinary work across the humanities, sciences, and professional fields.

The successful candidate will benefit from a robust, existing Inter-Faculty bridge between the Department of Equity, Ethics, and Policy (DEEP) and the Department of Philosophy. With several members already holding joint appointments, the appointee will join a flourishing and integrated community of colleagues actively engaged in bioethics across the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and the Faculty of Arts.

Job Duties
The successful candidate will be actively involved in the academic activities of both departments, including research, teaching, and supervision of students and residents, and service on academic and administrative committees. In addition to other teaching duties to be determined by the joint Chairs, the incumbent will be required to develop and teach a new HealthCare Ethics course to be offered in the Department of Equity, Ethics, and Policy.

The successful candidate will also be expected to develop and sustain an externally funded, independent research program addressing the ethical challenges posed by the development and dissemination of emerging or contested medical technologies and their implications for health equity. This research agenda should be aligned with, and contribute to, the DNA to RNA (D2R) Canada First Research Excellence Fund (CFREF) initiative at McGill, particularly along Axis 6 (https://www.mcgill.ca/dna-to-rna/about/research-impact/six-foundational-axes).

Active participation in D2R’s collaborative and interdisciplinary activities is expected, including contributions to governance, knowledge mobilization, stakeholder engagement, and other service that advance the initiative’s goals.

McGill faculty members are expected to contribute to service activities within their units, the University, and the wider scholarly community. A demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion is also expected.

Qualifications and Education Requirements
