The Department of Journalism and Media Management at the University of Miami seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor whose research and teaching advance public-facing science communication, journalism, and media studies. We welcome candidates who can bridge journalism, media, and scientific disciplines, and who are committed to interdisciplinary collaboration.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct research in science, health, or environmental journalism or media studies with potential for obtaining external funding.
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in journalism, media studies, and science communication.
- Advise and mentor students. Consult with student climate journalism TV program.
- Develop interdisciplinary curricula and minors supporting science majors seeking communication expertise.
- Collaborate across university environmental, health and science units.
- Contribute to departmental, school, and university service.
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Journalism, Media Studies, Communication or related field.
- Demonstrated potential for scholarly research and publication.
- Experience in journalism, broadcast media, media studies, or science communication preferred.
- Ability to teach and mentor students across majors.
- Commitment to inclusive teaching and research.

Research Approaches
We value a wide range of research approaches in journalism and media studies, including those grounded in social science and interpretive traditions. We welcome scholarship that draws from interdisciplinary perspectives and engages with varied epistemologies and methodologies.
