Assistant Professor (tenure track) in Career and Technology Studies (CTS)

Situated on Treaty Six territory, the Faculty of Education at the University of Alberta invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor (tenure track) in Career and Technology Studies (CTS). CTS is an essential subject area within the teacher education program with an emphasis on relational pedagogy and meaningful connections between technology, work, and human development. Our future teachers are prepared to support students' diverse post-secondary and career pathways. The appointment is expected to begin on July 1, 2026.

Location - This role is in-person. Work primarily takes place at North Campus, Edmonton.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in the Career and Technology Studies and/or other areas of education across the Faculty.
  • Engagement in a research program relevant to Career and Technology Studies.
  • Contribution to service within the Faculty, University and the broader community.
  • Advising and supervising undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Leadership in the CTS subject area.

Qualifications

  • Applicants must have completed a Doctorate (PhD or EdD) in Education with a focus relevant to Career and Technology Studies or a closely related field (e.g., Curriculum and Instruction).
  • Applicants who are close to completion (ABD) will be considered.
  • Applicants must demonstrate potential for scholarly excellence in terms of productivity and creative innovation and attract internal and external funding. Candidates must have relevant teaching experience at the school and post-secondary level. The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability and expertise to teach and supervise graduate students in Secondary Education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Contribute to ongoing teacher education program development.
  • Work with post-secondary education institutions to formally transfer two-year diplomas and corresponding credentials to the Bachelor of Education and After Degree in Education CTS Majors and CTS Minor degree programs.
  • Successful teaching experience, preferably at both the K–12 and post-secondary levels, with the ability to teach across undergraduate teacher education (pre-service) and graduate programs.
  • Evidence of strong potential for a productive research program in areas connected to CTS and Career and Technology Foundations (CTF), which may include:
    • Any one or more of the CTS or CTF associated sectors
    • Teacher education, pedagogy, and curriculum
    • Workplace and project-based learning
    • School to work transitions and post-high school program development
    • Career education and career pathways for youth and adults
    • Policy and practice of work
    • Apprenticeship and training
  • Demonstrated expertise in any one or more of the five clusters of Alberta’s CTS curriculum and pedagogy, and CTS and CTF related-assessments.
  • Experience with shop, lab, and classroom maintenance and budgets.
  • Experience with Alberta Education curricula or comparable K–12 career and technology education programs.
  • Willingness to collaborate with schools, school divisions, associations, and community partners.
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and decolonization in teaching, research, and community engagement.
  • CTS related credential, which can be journey certification or diploma.
