Background of the recruitment and description of the project
Okayama University, Faculty of Environmental, Life, Natural Science and Technology, Department of Intelligent Mechanical Systems is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track). This course develops broad education and research in the field of systems engineering centered on robotics, control engineering, mechatronics, and human interfaces — spanning from foundational theory to social implementation. Under an integrated talent development framework across undergraduate and graduate programs, the course has a continuous track record of producing the next generation of robotics engineers and intelligent machine systems researchers.
The research areas of this course are deeply aligned with the demands of the era: achieving the SDGs and realizing Society 5.0. The course actively promotes cutting-edge interdisciplinary research with significant social impact, including applications in medicine, nursing care, and daily life support; development of autonomous robots for marine, space, and disaster environments; smart agriculture; and IoT systems. It serves as a core pillar of the university's priority research strategy and J-PEAKS objectives.
Robotics is a comprehensive research field that crosses hardware, software, artificial intelligence, and sensing technologies, and its societal demand is greater than ever before. This course is broadly seeking ambitious researchers and educators who aspire to pursue such interdisciplinary research and who can lead the way in realizing a future society in which robots and humans coexist.

Work content and job description
The position involves teaching advanced mechanics experiments and other lectures at the School of Engineering. The incumbent will also assist with graduate research and lead research methods to master's and doctoral students. Depending on their expertise, they may also be required to teach liberal arts education courses and specialized education courses for both undergraduate and graduate students.

Annual salary: 5 million yen - 7 million yen
Wages description: Basic annual salary and Performance-based annual salary: Assistant Professor 5,802,000-6,708,000 yen *Only for a person with PhD
An annual salary system is applied. The amount of salary is determined in consideration of the person’s educational background, licenses and qualifications, work experience, etc. according to the National University Corporation Okayama University annual salary application staff salary rules.
As allowances, those eligible will be provided with commuting allowance, dependent allowance, housing allowance, adjustment allowance, etc.

Working hours: 08:30-17:30
Holidays: Saturdays and Sundays, national holidays, and December 29 to January 3 (Article 42, paragraph 2 of the Personnel Work Rules)
Overtime and other explanations: If the employee agrees to the application of the discretionary work system for specialized work, working hours will be deemed as 7 hours and 45 minutes per day. Overtime work is not required in principle. Day-off work may be required. (Articles 41 and 42 of the Personnel Work Rules)
