Assistant Professor, Theatre and Dance
Position Summary
The Department of Theatre and Dance at Rollins College is seeking a candidate for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor beginning August 2026. The primary responsibility will be teaching courses in Theatre History, Global Theatre, and Script Analysis. The department seeks a candidate whose research or performance expertise includes any of the following areas: African and African-American performance and drama, Latin American, Caribbean, or South American performance traditions and theatre, Indigenous and First Nations performance and drama, and other non-Western theatre forms not listed.
The successful candidate will be able to teach academic courses in these areas to both majors and general education students and would (if applicable) be open to cross-listing such courses with other relevant departments on campus. In addition to teaching the above subjects to theatre majors, the candidate will be expected to teach non-majors in our General Education program. The successful candidate will also be expected to direct productions on a rotating schedule and should have experience directing undergraduates in various theatrical styles. The ability to teach beginning level Acting or Directing courses is preferred. Additional responsibilities include pursuing a program of scholarly research and/or professional theatrical activity; advising Rollins students; and other college and departmental service needs as required.
The appointee will be expected to: maintain a national and international profile as a scholar and/or practitioner of theatre; demonstrate a strong commitment to excellent, innovative teaching; expand the areas of interest represented in our department; and have the potential to work well with the variety of students in our wide-ranging undergraduate programs. They will also be expected to serve on departmental and faculty committees and participate in faculty governance as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications and Education
- PhD degree in theatre, or a related field at time of appointment expected, MFA considered.
- Evidence of potential for published scholarship and/or professional work as an actor or director.
- Demonstrated success as an innovative classroom teacher.
Preferred Qualifications
- At least 2 years of experience teaching at the college-level.
- Specialization in any aspect of global theatre.
- Experience and expertise in teaching theatre history and script analysis.
- Demonstrated success in directing undergraduates in theatrical productions.
