Description

_Vanderbilt University School of Medicine._ The Department of Cell and Developmental Biology (CDB) and the new Center for Computational Systems Biology (CCSB) at Vanderbilt University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty appointment at the rank of _Assistant Professor_. We aim to recruit outstanding investigators with research programs that emphasize computational approaches to investigate 3D tissue architecture in development and disease, cell-cell communication, metabolomics (including microbial metabolites), or epigenomics of cell fate identity. A wet lab component can be considered.

The CDB department is positioned in the top tier for NIH funding among all US medical schools, and has an exceptional faculty, with multiple productive recruits to the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor. Incoming faculty will have a supportive peer group and extensive mentoring. Vanderbilt is renowned for its state-of-the-art core facilities, and the collaborative research environment presents opportunities to interact with many premier interdisciplinary groups across both the University and Medical Center campuses. Candidates are expected to develop a strong and creative research program and participate in graduate education, mentor graduate students, and engage in collaborative initiatives spanning engineering, computing, and basic science departments. Vanderbilt is home to several large data intensive initiatives that the candidate can draw on, such as the BioVU, Human Tumor Atlas Network, HuBMAP, SPORE, Human Cell Atlas, and computing initiatives with Oak Ridge National Labs. 

Qualifications

Applicants must have a strong record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals, a Ph.D. in a quantitative science-related field such as computer science, data science, physics, biostatistics, engineering, or bioinformatics (or a biomedical PhD plus an undergraduate degree in such quantitative fields), and 3 years of post-doctoral research experience in systems biology, computational biology, or related fields. Qualified candidates should have expertise in computational modeling, machine learning, AI, or algorithm development. Successful applicants should have a track record of contributing to multidisciplinary and multi-institutional collaborative research projects.
