Description

The Department of Molecular Genetics in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto (St. George campus) invites applications for a full-time tenure stream position in the area of Virology. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of January 1, 2027.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Virology/Microbiology/Molecular Biology or a related discipline at the time of appointment, with a demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching. Relevant postdoctoral experience or equivalent is expected. Candidates must provide strong evidence of research excellence of an internationally competitive calibre in the broad area of molecular virology, or a related area as evidenced by a record of publications in leading journals in the field as well as presentations at significant conferences, the submitted research statement, accolades or awards, and strong endorsements by referees of high standing.

The successful candidate will be expected to mount an innovative, competitive and independently funded research program in the broadly defined area of molecular virology. The candidate will also be invited to become a member of the Emerging and Pandemic Infections Consortium (EPIC; epic.utoronto.ca), a program that marshals the advanced research infrastructure and the world-renowned research and training expertise of the University and its affiliated hospital network to allow an integrated, innovative response to infectious diseases. Applicants who will complement existing departmental strengths, and those who will effectively use the University’s state-of-the-art biosafety containment level 3 facilities, are particularly encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will also undertake undergraduate and graduate teaching responsibilities on the University’s St. George campus. Candidates must provide evidence of excellence in teaching through teaching accomplishments and via a teaching dossier (see below for an outline of the required and suggested materials to be included in the teaching dossier) as well as strong endorsements by referees.

The expected salary range is $125,000-$155,000 CAD per annum, depending on experience. Negotiations beyond this salary range will be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates.
