Offer Description
The position of Assistant Professor in the project: TEAM NET FENG.02.03-IP.05-0113/24 'Development of an innovative, high-throughput platform for functional screening of human pancreatic endocrine cells'. Leader of the UW project team: Dr. Tomasz Kamiński. Funding institution: Foundation for Polish Science.
The development of an innovative, high-throughput platform for functional screening of human pancreatic endocrine cells is the subject of the project. Diabetes is a chronic metabolic disease with a steadily increasing global incidence. The project proposes the use of a novel high-throughput flow system for culturing differentiating pancreatic cells on a microscale, enabling advanced preclinical studies, in vitro diabetes modeling, and more efficient drug testing.
The platform developed as part of the project will accelerate, standardize, and increase the precision of research, thereby reducing the costs of developing new therapies for patients with diabetes. The project will be carried out by a consortium formed by Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań (leader), the University of Warsaw, and the Jagiellonian University in Kraków.
The research teams are led by Prof. Małgorzata Borowiak (AMU), Prof. Józef Dulak (JU), and Dr. Tomasz Kamiński (UW).
Basic responsibilities and obligations:
- Conducting scientific research in biological sciences and publishing findings in international scientific journals.
- Securing research funding.
- Fulfilling other academic teacher responsibilities as required by employment at the University of Warsaw.

Responsibilities within the project implementation:
- Culturing and differentiation of pancreatic β-cells from pluripotent stem cells, including cultivation in microreactor format.
- Preparation of libraries for NGS (Next-Generation Sequencing) and analysis and interpretation of sequencing results.
- Validation of high-throughput screening results through targeted gene and/or promoter editing.

Skills/Qualifications
Conditions for entering the competition:
- Fulfill the requirements set out in Article 113 of the Law on Higher Education and Science (Journal of Laws of 2024, item 1571, consolidated text)
- Hold a Ph.D. degree in biological sciences or a related field obtained before the application deadline.
- Have significant scientific achievements documented by well-cited publications in renowned international journals, invitations to deliver lectures or seminars, etc.
- Have international experience, e.g.: participation in international conferences, engagement in international research projects, international collaborations documented by joint publications.
- Submit a research plan outlining personal scientific development.
- Research competencies in the field of:
- Knowledge of microscopy, flow cytometry, cell culture, and molecular biology techniques, including the preparation of genomic libraries for next-generation sequencing (NGS).
- Experience in sequence data analysis using bioinformatics tools.
- Experience working with stem cells, particularly induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), is a plus.
- Additional assets include familiarity with genome editing techniques such as CRISPR/Cas9 and single-cell sequencing methods.
In addition, we expect:
- Research mobility, e.g., a fellowship at a prestigious foreign research institution.
- Experience in securing research funding.
- Experience in technology implementation, patenting, and collaboration with industry or the business sector is also desirable.
If hired, we expect the University of Warsaw to be the primary workplace for the successful candidate.

Full-time employment contract
Employment starting from 1 November 2026 for 17 months with a possible extending
Basic remuneration PLN 14 000 - 16 000 PLN gross/month plus the additional annual remuneration, allowance for years of service.

Criteria for the assessment of candidates in a competition

Selection process
Stages of competiton:
- Stage I - formal evaluation of documents,
- Stage II - substantive evaluation on the basis of submitted documents,
- Stage III - interview with selected candidates, during which the candidate will be required to give a short presentation on their previous achievements and career plans, followed by a Q&A session with members of the selection committee,
- Stage IV - final evaluation of competence, experience and scientific achievements,
- Stage V - adjudication of the competition and announcement of results.
Interviews will take place 5 days after the recruitment closes. Candidates will be individually notified about their interview schedule with the selection committee.
Candidates will be informed of the results via email by 31 October 2026
