Job Description:
The Department of History at American University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in the History of Science, Technology, and Society (STS) in the United States, beginning August 1, 2027. Candidates whose research areas include public health and medicine, environmental history, labor and automation, or information/data/knowledge regimes are particularly encouraged to apply. We welcome the ability to teach the period before 1900 and/or expertise in African American or Indigenous History as well as building connections to public-facing institutions. We are especially interested in candidates who can address how science and technology have shaped governance, economic systems, inequality, marginalized populations, and civic life. In addition to scholarship and teaching, responsibilities will include participation in department, school and university activities.
The annual salary range is $95,000-100,000. Applicants should have a PhD or an anticipated PhD completion by August 1, 2027.
