Offer Description
The Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies, School of Humanities, University of Iceland, invites applications for the full-time position of Assistant Professor within the field of Theological Ethics. According to the University of Iceland's rules, the duties of academic staff are divided into three main components: research, teaching, and administration.
Main tasks
- Teaching and supervising courses within the field of theological ethics, both at undergraduate and graduate level.
- Research within this discipline and communicating the outcome.
- Participate in developing methods of teaching and the advancement of the field of studies and Faculty.
- Administration within the Faculty, the School, and the University, including serving on committees.

Skills/Qualifications
- Doctoral degree within the field of theological ethics.
- Experience of research within the field of theological ethics.
- Teaching experience in theology is desirable.
- Experience of supervising students with their final thesis at a university level is an advantage.
- Experience of administrative work is an advantage.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, flexibility in human interaction, credibility, initiative and the ability to work independently
- Good writing and communication skills in Icelandic and English. Applicants who do not have Icelandic as their native language, should within three years from their hiring, have learned enough Icelandic to be able to take on administrative responsibilities and teaching that requires knowledge in the Icelandic language.
The selection process will take into consideration how well the applicant fits the needs and goals of the field of theological ethics.

Wages according to the current collective agreement by the Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs and Félag háskólakennara.
The tentative starting date is January 1, 2027, or by agreement.
The position will be filled for a term of five years, with the possibility of a permanent appointment thereafter, cf. Paragraph 3, Article 31 of the Rules of the University of Iceland No. 569/2009.
The processing of applications, evaluation of candidates' qualifications, and appointment to the position shall follow the provisions of Act No. 85/2008 on Public Universities and the Rules of the University of Iceland No. 569/2009.

- Academic curriculum vitae (CV)
- List of publications
- A report on research work and other professional work undertaken
- A statement of research and teaching plans if appointed
- Information on potential referees who may be contacted
The application must indicate which of the applicant's publications, up to eight in total, are considered most significant with regard to the position in question. Applicants should submit only these publications with their application or provide information on where they are electronically accessible. If a submitted work has multiple authors, applicants must clarify their individual contribution to the work. Application materials that cannot be submitted electronically should be sent in two copies to the Science and Innovation Department, University of Iceland, Sæmundargata 2, 101 Reykjavík.
