Background of the recruitment and description of the project
To further promote research on marine plastics, the Center for Ocean Plastic Studies (COPS) at the Research Institute for Applied Mechanics, Kyushu University, is recruiting one Assistant Professor.
Work content and job description
The successful candidate will join the Field-Driven Research Unit and will engage in field-observation-based research on ocean plastics in collaboration with faculty members affiliated with COPS. We particularly encourage applicants who can contribute to advancing research in any of the following areas within interdisciplinary research projects: the chemical characterization, transformation processes, environmental fate, or environmental behavior of microplastics and associated contaminants. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in the Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Engineering Sciences (IGSES), Kyushu University.

- Annual salary: 3 million yen
- Wages description: Salary annual salary (introduced in April 2020). The annual salary will be determined in accordance with the regulations of Kyushu University based on experience.
- Working hours: 08:30-17:15
- Break time: 12:00-13:00
- Holidays: In addition to annual leave, Saturdays, Sundays, national holidays and the period from the 29th of December to the 3rd of January.
- Overtime and other explanations: Based on the agreed-upon discretionary labor system for professional work, it is regarded that working hours are 7 hours and 45 minutes irrespective of how much time the employee actually spends on his/her works.
- Employment type: Regular employee
- Contract period: Nontenured-Tenure-track; Full-time (5-year term). A review will be conducted in the fifth year, and if approved, the position will be converted to full-time (no term of office). If the period of continuous employment at the University exceeds five years, until the total period of employment exceeds ten years.
- Probationary period: Probationary period absent
