2. Description:
A person employed as an assistant professor for an indefinite period of time in the Department of Nuclear Physicochemistry – NZ64 at IFJ PAN will be obliged to participate in work on research topics and projects carried out and planned for the nearest period in the NZ64 Department. The basic tasks of the employed person will include: conducting scientific research on the production of radionuclides with potential use in nuclear medicine using the AIC-144 cyclotron, including optimization of irradiation conditions of shield materials and development of methods for the separation and purification of the obtained radionuclides. An important element of the work will be the development and improvement of radiochemical separation methods aimed at obtaining radionuclides of high radiochemical and radionuclide purity. The duties of the employed person will also include the development and expansion of the measurement capabilities of the existing apparatus base of the Department of Nuclear Physics, in particular in the field of detection, identification and quantitative determination of radionuclides, as well as the development and implementation of new analytical procedures supporting the implementation of the conducted research. The employed person will also be obliged to disseminate the results of the research in the form of publications in leading scientific journals and speeches during seminars and conferences, including those of international scope. The person will also be obliged to apply for external research funding.

Skills/Qualifications
Required qualifications:
- the degree of habilitated doctor of physical sciences or related disciplines or the degree of doctor of physical sciences or related disciplines with scientific achievements that significantly meet the requirements for candidates for the degree of habilitated doctor,
- qualifications necessary to carry out research tasks carried out in NZ64,
- knowledge of research in the field of neutron and proton activation, nuclear spectrometry and applications of radioactive isotopes in medicine
- experience in the application of radiochemical methods in the separation of radioactive elements from samples and disc materials,
- ability to work with measuring equipment (HPGe detectors, liquid scintillation meters, semiconductor alpha spectrometers), signal acquisition paths (analogue in the NIM standard and digital), vacuum and cryogenic systems
- good knowledge of software for acquisition and analysis of spectrometric data (Genie 2k, GammaVision, Maestro, LVis, Tukan) and programs for analysis and presentation of obtained results (Origin)
- very good knowledge of spoken and written English.
- Long-term interest in working at IFJ PAN towards habilitation
Welcome:
- knowledge of the construction of measuring equipment at a level that allows it to be made minor repairs and necessary modifications,
- Interest and skills in electronics.

Applicants seeking employment at the IFJ PAN are required to contact the head of the NZ64 Department Nuclear Physical Chemistry, Prof. Jerzy W. Mietelski (Jerzy.Mietelski@ifj.edu.pl), by November 9th, 2026, who may ask the candidate to give a seminar before submitting an application; the Department Head then sends the Selection Committee a brief opinion recommending or not recommending the candidate for employment. Failure to meet with the Department Head by November 9th, 2026, will result in the application being rejected on procedural grounds.
The Director of the Institute may cancel the competition at any stage of the recruitment process without providing a reason.

Selection process
All applications will be reviewed by the Selection Committee. Based on the submitted documentation, the Committee shall: conduct a formal review of the application; evaluate the qualifications of candidates whose applications meet the formal requirements; and select a candidate to be interviewed. Interviews with candidates shall take place from December 1st, to December 3rd, 2026. Candidates qualified for interviews shall be notified by e-mail about the exact date of the Interview by November 20th, 2026. During the interview the candidate shall be required to give a presentation, stored on a pen drive, lasting 10 minutes at maximum which shell presenting candidate’s most important achievement,
- The competition shall be concluded by December 15th, 2026.
- Each candidate shall be notified by e-mail about the results of the competition.
The final decision on employing and salary shall be taken by IFJ PAN Director.
Additional comments
A person employed at the position of Assistant Professor with a postdoctoral degree (habilitation) of PLN 8,050 gross, and with a PhD degree will receive a monthly basic salary of PLN 7,250 gross.
The total amount of remuneration is influenced by additional components, such as:
- length of service
- allowance for working under conditions of exposure to ionizing radiation (if applicable)
