Assistant Research Scientist
Job Summary
The Assistant Research Scientist will play a significant role in personnel and resource management, and will independently manage assigned projects as well as those of other program personnel. The incumbent will define goals for the research project in conjunction with the PI or co-PI. This includes managing the PI’s lab and overseeing the graduate students.
Job Duties
- Design and lead a robust, innovative research program focused on biocompatible polymers and biointerfacial redox processes using quantum and atomistic simulations. Develop or apply advanced machine learning techniques to investigate interfacial hydration and analyze the structural dynamics of biomolecules on substrate surfaces to elucidate bioadhesion mechanisms. Evaluate the mechanical properties and performance of novel functional materials through an integrated approach combining simulations and experimental validation. Communicate research outcomes through technical reports, presentations, and peer-reviewed publications.
- Manage the principal investigator’s (PI) laboratory operations and supervise graduate and undergraduate researchers in collaboration with the PI and co-PI. Provide training on literature review techniques and the use of advanced simulation tools, including quantum simulations (e.g., ab initio molecular dynamics) and atomistic molecular dynamics simulations. Assist the PI in communications with external collaborators by preparing data summaries, presentation materials, and coordinating meeting schedules.
- Prepare research proposals, manuscripts, and conference presentations with minimal supervision from the principal investigator (PI); effectively communicate research outcomes at local, national, and international venues. Summarize research findings and contribute to the development of annual reports for funding agencies. Conduct literature reviews, compile preliminary data, and actively participate in the PI’s proposal development process.
