Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach
Position Summary
Eastern University is seeking an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach to support the development and implementation of performance training programs for its varsity student-athletes. This position is ideal for a motivated coach who is passionate about athlete development, relationship building, and contributing to a collaborative, mission-driven athletic department. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the strength and conditioning staff, sport coaches, and sports medicine personnel to provide high-level training support for varsity athletic programs. The Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach will uphold the values and mission of Eastern University while training and motivating student-athletes to maximize their potential for athletic performance and injury prevention.
Position Responsibilities
- Instruct student-athletes in proper lifting technique, movement mechanics, speed development, plyometrics, conditioning, and recovery strategies.
- Seeks to treat each member of the campus community with fairness, dignity and respect seeking a spirit of unity and harmony as we join together to achieve our common mission.
- Develop and implement sport specific, scientifically based strength and conditioning programs for assigned teams.
- Have the knowledge and understanding of the rules and regulations of the NCAA and any conferences of which Eastern University is a member.
- Assist with the daily operation of the strength and conditioning program, including scheduling, facility oversight, report preparation, and equipment management.
- Conduct and assist with athlete performance testing, data collection, and analysis.
- Monitor athlete attendance, training progress, and program compliance.
- Collaborate with sports medicine staff to support return-to-play and modified training programs for injured student-athletes.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with sport coaches to support team needs and performance goals.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized training environment.
- Assist with the development of departmental systems for communication, scheduling, reporting, and athlete monitoring.
- Provide mentoring to graduate assistants, interns, or student workers as assigned.
- Demonstrate professionalism in all interactions with student-athletes, coaches, administrators, and campus community members.
- Support the mission of Eastern University and contribute positively to the holistic development of student-athletes.
- Embodies values of caring and compassion, justice and integrity, competence and affirmation.
- Assist in the supervision and management of the campus fitness center.
Status: Staff, 40 hours per week, exempt, 10 months per year, paid out over 12 months.
Qualifications

Problem Solving:
- Must have the ability to be creative with staffing, budgeting and other unique issues relative to Division III.
- Must have the skill to work with a variety of student-athletes and reach the goal of making them better as people first, and athletes second.
Communication:
- Must have very strong interpersonal skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must!
Complexity of Tasks:
- Must have a working understanding of strength and conditioning equipment with the ability to do minor repairs when necessary.
Leadership Skills:
- Must have the credibility to convince coaches, staff and students that the prescribed work is safe, effective and achievable.
- A strong self-image and high confidence levels are a must.
Initiative/Creativity:
- Because some student-athletes are less enthused about strength and condition work, our coach will need to take the initiative at times to get all athletes involved and committed.
