Assistant Supervisor
Position Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking an Assistant Supervisor for the Office for Research.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
- Provides routine and daily oversight of Animal Husbandry personnel.
- Assists the Supervisor in preparing schedules for work assignments and related tasks regarding animal husbandry.
- Trains and instructs staff in appropriate animal care and facility procedures.
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree (BS) with two (2) years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge in the care and use of laboratory animals.

Equipment Utilized
Cage washing equipment, Autoclaves, Floor scrubbers, Chemical mixing stations, Dry heat oven. Tattooing machines.
Various computer programs.
May need to drive University vehicle.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
On prolonged daily basis must be able to perform the physical demands of the job of being able to lift 50 pounds, push and pull heavy loads of equipment, twisting of upper trunk, repetitive and overhead lifting.
Can work in cage wash and animal room conditions while wearing safety apparel and personal protective equipment (PPE).
Can be bending, stooping, or reaching for long periods of time.
Ability to stand or walk on hard surfaces for most of the workday, including slippery surfaces.
Work environment includes potential exposure to zoonotic diseases, and the use of hazardous and restricted chemicals.
Potential exposure to animal dander, fluids and soiled waste as well as cleaning chemicals.
Wearing of PPE could increase body temperature.
Special Conditions
Must be available to work weekends and holidays as needed.
