Assistant Teacher
Assist with the supervision and teaching of children ages six weeks to ten years of age with daily care routines and implementation of age appropriate lessons and activities aligned with best practice, state licensing rules and regulatory and accreditation standards.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities (include, but not limited to)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in the planning, supervision, and implementation of age appropriate activities aligned with Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards and NAEYC accreditation standards for the afternoon program during the academic school year and full day during the summer months.
- Model ethical and appropriate best practices as an EC professional for CDC children, families, and ECE students.
- Maintain cleanliness, orderliness, and mandated state licensing regulations of the CDC including proper storage of materials, and sanitation of classroom equipment and materials.
- Document, initiate and maintain communication with parents about child’s progress as directed by Lead Teacher.
- Maintain current professional and technical knowledge in the field through professional education and activities.
Minimum Qualifications
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Working knowledge of theories and principles of childhood growth and development from birth through ten years of age.
- Knowledge of child behavior.
- Knowledge of first aid, safety, sanitation and nutrition pertaining to Early Childhood Education standards of best practice.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, parents, and other staff.
- Ability to plan and organize own work and creative activities for children.
- Effective interpersonal communication skills in speaking, writing and listening.
EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field, or current enrollment in WCTC's Early Childhood Education program
- Eighty (80) hours of training in Early Childhood Education or a diploma from a one year Child Care Services Program or Child Development Associate (CDA) or two (2) years of college credit with three (3) credits in Early Childhood Education.
- Eighty (80) full days or 120 half-days experience providing direct child care as a teacher or volunteer in a licensed child care center, kindergarten or be certified as a nursery school teacher through the Department of Public Instruction.
- For those working with children two (2) years of age and younger, experience in working with children two (2) years of age or younger is preferred; or, a minimum of 10 hours of training in infant and toddler care; or 10 hours of training in infant and toddler care is required within six (6) months of hire.
The Assistant Teacher position supports the Child Development Center and can start on or before August 3rd. This Assistant Teacher position will be assigned to the infant classroom working with children aged 6 week to 18 months (approximately).
