Assistant Teaching Professor - Kinesiology

The College of Health Solutions at Arizona State University is seeking a full-time, 9-month career track instructional faculty member at the rank of assistant teaching professor for our rapidly growing Kinesiology degree, with potential opportunities to teach courses in other movement sciences degree programs. This is a fixed-term appointment that is renewable annually. Subsequent one-year appointments may be offered, under the same terms and conditions, at the discretion of the College and University.

Responsibilities for this position include teaching a varied selection of in-person, hybrid, or online courses in the Kinesiology (KIN) undergraduate and graduate programs and providing service to the college and relevant degrees. Courses may be offered at multiple campuses or in online formats, depending on student enrollment and interest. Applicants must present evidence of teaching experience and a strong commitment to high-quality teaching. Candidates with teaching skills across a breadth of exercise science courses are preferred. Typical workloads for instructional faculty are consistent with 80% teaching (usually equivalent to four courses per semester) and 20% service.

Essential Functions

• effectively design and teach multiple courses in kinesiology for students pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology or other movement science degree programs (either online or immersion). These courses include but are not limited to: introductory kinesiology, evidence-based practice, exercise and sport psychology and other foundational exercise science courses.
• effectively collaborate with colleagues and engage in program, college and/or university service activities.

Required Qualifications

• MS or PhD degree in kinesiology, exercise or sport science, exercise or sport psychology, or related degree
• At least 12 credit hours of college or university-level teaching experience as the primary instructor of record, with at least 3 of these credit hours being within exercise or sport psychology.
• Demonstrated ability to work, collaborate, and communicate effectively with varied students, colleagues, community partners, and staff in a multicultural environment.
• Shows support for ASU’s commitment to inclusive excellence as outlined in the ASU charter.

Desired Qualifications

• Teaching experience in in-person and online formats Experience teaching both small-enrollment and large-enrollment courses.
• Experience teaching across multiple undergraduate levels, including introductory survey courses, foundational core courses, and upper-division courses.
• Experience teaching courses across a wide range of movement and exercise science topics
• Experience with developing undergraduate and/or graduate courses
• Documented experience providing service to the program and university, as well as to the community and profession
• Effective communication skills with students and colleagues
• Experience in implementing instructional methods, student initiatives, faculty initiatives, scholarships, administrative practices, or other actions with the goal of reducing systemic discrimination and disadvantages facing students of minority backgrounds
