Duties and Responsibilities:
The typical course load consists of four courses (12 hours) each fall and spring semester. Courses are generally scheduled on campus, with occasional courses scheduled online, either synchronously or asynchronously.
Instructional load will include such Art Education classes as:
- AED 201 Art Education: Introduction
- AED 304 Art Education: Curriculum and Instruction
- AED 305 Art Education: Elementary Teaching Practicum (Fall Saturday Art School)
- AED 399 Art Education: Secondary Methods and Materials
Instructional load may include such courses in the broader School of Art curriculum as:
- ART 290 Basic Art Media and Techniques
- Various upper-level courses in art and design offered for School of Art majors/minors or as part of the University Core Curriculum
- Other teaching duties may be assigned based on programmatic needs and the successful candidate's expertise.
Additional responsibilities include planning and executing community classes for K-12 students taught by Art Education majors, developing curriculum, and maintaining studios, classrooms, and equipment in collaboration with other faculty and staff.
The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to and participate in the life and development of the School of Art, the College of Fine Arts, and the University by serving on committees and being active in their discipline's community.
Minimum qualifications:
- Master's degree in art education or related field from an accredited institution by date of appointment.
- One semester of teaching experience at the college level gained concurrently or at any time.
Preferred qualifications:
- PhD or EdD in art education or related field from an accredited institution by date of appointment.
- Three years of experience teaching art in K-12 schools.
- One year of teaching experience at the college level.
- Ability to teach in a secondary area including, but not limited to, drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, video and new media, sculpture, ceramics, metals + jewelry, glass, graphic design, animation, or art history.
