Assistant Teaching Professor of Engineering Science
Position Description: The College of Engineering at the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology (New Mexico Tech) invites applications for a 9 month non-tenure-track Assistant Teaching Professor of Engineering Science to start in the Fall semester of 2026. We are especially interested in candidates who can cover courses in the thermo-fluid sciences and engineering economics though all candidates will be considered. The candidate should have an earned M.S. or Ph.D. in an engineering (or closely related) field.
Responsibilities: (a) teaching undergraduate courses; (b) serving as an academic advisor for undergraduate students who are undecided in engineering; (c) contributing to the college's and institution's efforts in supporting student academic success while engaging and encouraging students from diverse academic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds; and (d) assisting in department, center, and university activities that include assessment and accreditation and other service activities in the profession and community.
Program Description: The engineering science program contains ~12 undergraduate courses that offered to all engineering majors at New Mexico Tech. Though there are no degrees in engineering science, most engineering students take several engineering science courses to complete their degree program. Engineering science professors are housed within the College of Engineering and report to the Dean of Engineering. The program is administered with input from the engineering department chairs at Tech.
Institute Description: The NMT campus is small and collegial with roughly 1,100 undergraduates and 500 graduate students in science and engineering. The full-time faculty percentage at NMT is 78% which is higher than the national average. The student to faculty ratio is 10 to 1 which is lower than the national average. NMT sends a higher fraction of its students on to graduate work than almost all other public institutions in the US. NMT is a federally-designated Hispanic Serving Institution, and roughly 1/3 of our faculty and majors are female.
