POSITION SPECIFICS
The Department of Educational Psychology, Counseling, & Special Education within the College of Education invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor of Education with primary responsibilities in teaching, supervision, and advising in the Counselor Education program. This non-tenure-line position includes the role of Assistant Clinic Coordinator at the Herr Clinic, the program's clinical training facility. This is an on-campus, 36-week faculty appointment at University Park, with the possibility of renewal and opportunities for summer teaching.
Applicants should demonstrate a record of success - or clear potential - in teaching, supervision, and advising, and should hold a primary professional identity as a counselor educator. Candidates seeking appointment must also have clinical experience appropriate for a clinic coordinator role.
Responsibilities
- Teach 3-4 courses per academic year in master's and doctoral programs, including clinical courses, with ability and openness to teaching undergraduates in the department's Rehabilitation and Human Services program
- Provide administrative leadership to the Herr Clinic
- Provide supervision to master's and doctoral students counseling in the Herr Clinic and associated community site partners
- Conduct crisis assessment interventions and provide on call crisis assessment support
- Serve as the internship coordinator for the Counselor Education program
- Advise doctoral students and chair or serve on doctoral committees
- Develop and maintain partnerships between the Herr Clinic, University offices, local school districts, and community organizations
- Serve on Department, College, and University committees, as appropriate
- Engage actively in professional service and leadership in the Counselor Education field
Required Qualifications
- Earned doctorate in Counselor Education from a CACREP program by August 2026
- Eligible for independent professional counselor licensure in Pennsylvania within one year of appointment
- Meets the definition of a CACREP core faculty member (2024 standards)
- Demonstrated commitment to high quality teaching and advising students
- Training and experience providing clinical supervision
- Consistent with the ACA and CRC code of ethics, evidence of a clear commitment to ethical, culturally competent, and innovative clinical training of counselors
- Strong commitment to mentoring both professional counseling and research identity development among students
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in clinical mental health counseling, clinical mental health and rehabilitation counseling, or clinical rehabilitation counseling
- Meets the Pennsylvania requirements for an approved supervisor (https://www.pacodeandbulletin.gov/Display/pacode?file=/secure/pacode/data/049/chapter49/s49.3.html&d=reduce)
- Holds dual designation as an independent licensed professional counselor (LPC) in Pennsylvania and certified rehabilitation counselor (CRC)
- Experience in leadership roles
- Interest in exploring the use of artificial intelligence in the training of counselors
- Experience with school-based mental health and/or mental health with children and youth
