Position:

The College of Education invites applications for a non-tenure-track, 9-month Assistant Teaching Professor position in the Department of Instructional Leadership and Professional Development. Preferred start date August 2026.

Qualifications:

Master’s degree or higher in Educational Leadership, Educational Policy, Curriculum Theory & Development, Professional Development, or a related field (doctorate preferred); substantive, successful experience in a PK-12 setting; leadership in public school settings; and demonstrated commitment to equity and social justice. Candidates with significant leadership experience in public school district(s) and experience teaching at the graduate level are encouraged to apply.

We are seeking educational leaders and thinkers who are committed to developing leaders who envision, strengthen, and innovate for equitable, educational contexts; center children’s, families’, and communities’ assets in decision-making; seek to work collaboratively; and draw from equity-oriented scholarship to inform vision and practice.

Responsibilities:

Teach graduate courses in educational leadership that inform equity-minded, action oriented, and bold leadership activities to practicing teachers and other educational professionals; may also teach undergraduate courses in related areas of expertise; supervise leadership interns during field-based clinical experiences; collaborate with colleagues; participate in activities with local school system partners; and be current in educational technology and digital teaching and learning. Provide service to the department, college, and university. Workload is eight courses per academic year, and faculty may teach through in-person, synchronous virtual, and/or asynchronous modalities.

The Department:

The Department of Instructional Leadership and Professional Development (ILPD) is in the College of Education, with primary duties at the graduate level to develop educational leaders. The programs take a broad view of leadership, and faculty value and support the aims of those who desire to lead through equity, cultural responsiveness, and community-based approaches, whether in traditional administrative positions or other school or community-based leadership roles. ILPD faculty—through teaching, action-oriented research, and service—seek to disrupt the status quo, confront and dismantle oppressive systems, and develop leaders who are able to address the visions and needs of minoritized communities.
