Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno is seeking a strategic and collaborative leader to serve as Assistant Vice President (AVP), Student Leadership & Engagement. This is an exciting opportunity to shape an inclusive, vibrant, and thriving campus community. Reporting directly to the Vice President for Student Services, the AVP will champion innovation, belonging, and student success while aligning student life programs with the institution's mission and strategic goals.

The AVP provides comprehensive leadership and oversight to the The Multicultural Center, New Student Initiatives, Fraternity and Sorority Life, First Gen Center, and the Center for Student Engagement, which includes the Associated Students of the University of Nevada (ASUN), Pack Provisions, and Pack Rides. This role ensures cohesive direction, operational excellence, and strategic coordination across departments, cultivating programs and services that promote equity, inclusion, health, and wellness. The AVP mentors and empowers a team of professionals while inspiring students at every stage of their development to lead, engage, and succeed.

Serving as a key institutional leader, the AVP collaborates closely with the Dean of Students and campus partners to oversee student life policies, emergency protocols, and critical incident response. The position advises faculty and staff on student health and safety matters and partners with the Office of Marketing and Communications to address media inquiries related to student and campus issues. Through proactive leadership and compassionate support, the AVP plays a vital role in guiding students and families during times of personal emergency while upholding a culture of care and accountability.

The AVP develops and implements a comprehensive strategic framework for Student Engagement and Leadership functions, overseeing budgets, operations, and personnel with integrity and innovation. By facilitating strategic planning, advancing program development, and ensuring rigorous assessment and compliance, the AVP strengthens services for all students.

Required Qualifications

Master's Degree and five (5) years of managerial or related professional work experience.

Related Experience: Higher education senior leader experience, including overseeing student services and higher education functions, or related.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated leadership experience in student services, student engagement, or student life programs, fostering inclusive and thriving campus communities
  • Expertise in data-informed decision-making and assessment, including evaluating programs and initiatives to improve student outcomes
  • Track record in strategic planning, guiding complex initiatives, and aligning departmental goals with institutional priorities

Compensation Grade

Salary Range: $150,000 - $179,473

Comp Grade E

Salary is competitive and commensurate with related education and experience, budgets, and equity.

Schedule and Travel

  • Variable work schedule
  • Occasional travel
  • Required to work on campus as well as attend large events and meetings in person
