Period of employment and remuneration: Living allowance ca. 2300 € gross per month and additionally: 13th salary and employee capital plan, mobility allowance: 710 €/monthly, family allowance: 495€/monthly.
Social Security to be paid by university. The living allowance is a gross amount, including compulsory deductions under national law, such as employer and employee social security contributions and direct taxes.
Position description:
The research staff member will investigate lysosomal cathepsins and legumain in immune cells and iPSC‑derived neurons to elucidate their role in tau cleavage and neurodegeneration in anti‑IgLON5 disease, using advanced single‑cell transcriptomic (scRNA‑seq) and CyTOF‑based proteomic approaches, and contribute to the development and application of novel chemical tools for mass cytometry.

Responsibilities:
- Design and synthesis of novel activity‑based chemical probes and related molecular tools to monitor lysosomal cathepsins and legumain in immune cells and neurons, and optimization of their use in mass cytometry platforms.
- Establishment and maintenance of iPSC‑derived neuronal and glial cultures, and treatment with patient‑derived anti‑IgLON5 antibodies and other experimental modulators to model disease‑relevant tau pathology.
- Single‑cell characterization of immune responses and cellular signatures associated with anti‑IgLON5 pathology using flow cytometry, CyTOF single‑cell proteomics, and scRNA‑seq, including sample preparation from patient material where applicable.
- Investigation of molecular mechanisms linking immune dysfunction, lysosomal protease activity, and tau‑related neurodegeneration, integrating imaging of neuronal tissue with biochemical and cellular assays.
- Integration of multi‑omics datasets (transcriptomic and proteomic) to identify actionable pathways and potential therapeutic targets for anti‑IgLON5 disease, in collaboration with project partners.
- Data analysis, interpretation of results, and preparation of scientific reports.
- Literature review and critical analysis of current research in the field.
- Presentation of research findings at international scientific conferences (in English).
- Participation in secondments at research institutes to carry out selected research tasks and foster international collaboration.
Specific Requirements
Requirements:
- Eligibility for enrollment in the Doctoral School at Wrocław University of Science and Technology.
- Master’s degree in chemistry, biotechnology, or a related field.
- Basic knowledge of chemical biology and molecular biology techniques.
- Interest in and attitude for experimental research.
- Ability to learn quickly and effectively assimilate new knowledge.
- Good teamwork and communication skills Proficiency in English (written and spoken).
- Computer literacy, including MS Office and scientific data analysis software (e.g., GraphPad Prism).
- The applicant must not have resided or had their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Poland for more than 12 months within the 36 months immediately preceding the reference date.
- Commitment to comply with the regulations of the Department of Biological Chemistry and Bioimaging, Faculty of Chemistry, WUST, regarding research and work organization, as well as the Doctoral Student Code of Ethics.
Applicants should not be in possession of a doctoral degree at the date of the recruitment and need to comply with the mobility rule (no residence or main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of the recruiting beneficiary for more than 12 months in the 36 months before their recruitment date).
Contributions for recruited researchers

for A.1 Living allowance and A.2 Mobility allowance:
- the number of units declared: (i) corresponds to the number of months spent by the recruited researchers on the research training activities, (ii) does not exceed the maximum number of months (per researcher) set out in the call conditions and (iii) comply with the requirements for non-academic exposure set out in the call conditions (for industrial doctorates only),
- the recruited researchers comply with the following conditions: (i) be — at the date of recruitment — a doctoral candidate (i.e. not already in possession of a doctoral degree, (ii) be enrolled in a doctoral programme leading to the award of a (for joint doctorates: joint, multiple or double) degree in at least one EU Member State or Horizon Europe associated country, (iii) be recruited by the beneficiaries under an employment contract (or other direct contract with equivalent benefits, including social security coverage) or — if not otherwise possible under national law — under a fixed amount fellowship agreement with minimum social security coverage, including during periods of secondment (iv) be employed full-time, unless the granting authority has approved a part-time employment for personal or family reasons (v) be working exclusively for the action (vi) not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of the recruiting beneficiary for more than 12 months in the 36 months immediately before the recruitment date — unless as part of a compulsory national service or a procedure for obtaining refugee status under the Geneva Convention
for A.3 Family allowance:
- the recruited researchers have a family. ‘Family’ means persons linked to the researcher by marriage (or a relationship with equivalent status to a marriage recognised by the legislation of the country where this relationship was formalised) or dependent children who are actually being maintained by the researcher.
- the number of units declared: (i) corresponds to the number of months spent by the recruited researchers with a family on the research training activities and (ii) does not exceed the maximum number of months (per researcher) set out in the call conditions.
- the contributions have been incurred for the benefit of the recruited researchers. This condition is met if they have been fully used for the recruited researchers for whom they are claimed.
