The University of Macau (UM) is an internationalized research-oriented comprehensive public university in the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) located at the west bank of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). The Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences (ICMS) invites applications for the position of Associate/Assistant Professor in any of the following disciplines:

• Bioinformatics
• Artificial Intelligence for Drug Discovery
• Big Data Analysis

Established in 2002, ICMS is an academic centre of excellence in Chinese medicine as well as biomedical and pharmaceutical sciences in the region. It hosts the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine, as well as Macau Centre for R&D in Chinese Medicine, UM Centre for Pharmaceutical Regulatory Sciences, UM Macau Centre for Testing of Chinese Medicine and Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Over the past decade, the Institute has established an international reputation in conducting high-quality research with special emphasis on Chinese medicine quality research, drug discovery and development, immunopharmacology, systems pharmacology, molecular pharmaceutics and regulatory sciences. It has secured outstanding funding support from both national and regional governments and built long-term strategic collaborations with top academic organizations around the world. Qualifications

(1) PhD/MD degree in Pharmacy, Medicine, Biomedicine or related disciplines, postdoctoral research experience from globally renowned universities; (2) A distinguished track record of internationally-recognized research publications; (3) both wet lab and dry lab proficiency, or a strong commitment to integrated experimental–computational research and hands on experience working in a biological laboratory, ideally involving immunological, inflammatory, or disease model systems, educational or research background in immunology, inflammation, or related fields. Priority consideration will be given to those with sustained high-quality research/teaching experiences in data science, pharmaceutical science, Chinese medicinal science, or bioinformatics.

For Bioinformatics, the applicant should have ability to analyze high‑dimensional biological data (e.g., transcriptomics, immunoprofiling, single‑cell data), preferably applied to immunology, inflammation, cancer immunotherapy, infectious diseases, mucosal immunity, or autoimmune/allergic disorders; and experience linking computational findings with experimental validation in the laboratory.

For Artificial Intelligence for Drug Discovery, the applicant should possess expertise in AI/ML methods applied to drug target identification, molecular design, or mechanism‑of‑action discovery, preferably with applications in immunomodulatory drugs, cancer immunotherapeutics, anti‑inflammatory agents, or anti‑infective compounds; and capacity to validate computational predictions through biological experiments.

For Big Data Analysis, the applicant should have experience in integrating omics data, pharmacological databases, knowledge frameworks for traditional or natural products, preferably with interest in immune‑regulating compounds or inflammatory disease therapeutics, and ability to test computational predictions experimentally in a biological lab setting.

The selected candidate is expected to assume duty in Spring 2027.

Remuneration

A taxable annual remuneration starting from MOP855,400 (approximately USD105,600) will be commensurate with the successful applicant’s academic qualification and relevant professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% - 7% after various discretionary exemptions.
