Associate Athletic Director

Gardner-Webb University is seeking to fill the role of Associate Athletic Director. The purpose of this position is to uphold the qualities, principles and standards of Gardner-Webb University, the Big South Conference and NCAA. Create a positive working environment as well as generate revenue, fundraise and put a team on the playing field that the Gardner-Webb community can be proud of. As well, to assist in the process in recruiting quality student-athletes to the campus.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Essential Functions:

  • Provide support for teams with specific attention to Sport Administrator responsibilities
  • Advise the Director of Athletics in formulating the budgeting needs of the department and administer all fiscal operations concerning athletics in accordance with applicable law and university policy
  • Keep abreast of conference, NCAA and activities and attend required meetings to aid in formulating university policies, and ensuring Big South compliance
  • Provide leadership and supervision in the compliance with rules and regulations by coaches, friends and supporters of the university.
  • Provide supervision, leadership, and assistance in the Compliance / Academic department
  • Maintain an appropriate level of involvement with media, contributions, alumni and friends of the university
  • Make recommendations to the Director of Athletics regarding the selection, performance, evaluation, and dismissal of athletic program personnel
  • Assist the Director of Athletics in exercising general responsibilities for athletic facilities
  • Provide key insight during decision making processes to support the Director of Athletics
  • Investigate “Emerging Sports” and advise the Director of Athletics concerning additional varsity sports programs
  • Primary department liaison with University offices (Residential Life, Admissions, Financial Aid, etc.)
  • Oversee and manage sports and staff as assigned
  • Oversee Athletic Aid Agreements
  • NCAA Athletics Certification Liaison
  • Oversee the compilation of NCAA reports (GSR, APR, Sport Sponsorships, etc.)
  • Oversee the administration of the NCAA Special Assistant Fund and Student Opportunity Fund
  • Represent the institution and conference on regional and/or national committee

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Sports as assigned

Qualifications:

Work Experience: 3-5 years experience in a related field

Education: Undergraduate Degree Required / Masters Degree Preferred

Certifications: n/a

Licenses: n/a

Desired Work Traits: Hard working, self sufficient, honest and cooperative

Computer Skills: Microsoft Office / Email & Internet proficient

Communication/Interpersonal Skills: The ability to communicate affectively with alumni, colleagues, and student athletes of diverse backgrounds.

Special Considerations:

Working Conditions: Positive Office environment with interaction between administration, student-athletes, coaches and alumni.

Travel: As needed per sport requirements

Hours: Successful candidate must be able to work select weekends as necessary based on their official job duties

This position requires an individual of high moral character. In accordance with the NCAA Bylaw 11.1, any athletic department employee who is found in violation of NCAA regulations shall be subject to disciplinary or corrective action as set forth in the provisions of the NCAA enforcement procedures. This may include suspension with out pay, or termination if the employee is found to be involved in deliberate and serious violations of NCAA regulations.
