Essential Job Duties:
The Associate Dean for Academic Programs provides strategic leadership for Poole College of Management's undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, and certificate programs. Reporting directly to the Dean and serving as a member of the Dean's executive leadership team, the Associate Dean is responsible for the quality, relevance, coordination, performance, and continuous improvement of the College's academic portfolio.
Working in partnership with department heads, program directors, faculty, staff, students, and University partners, the Associate Dean ensures that academic programs remain rigorous, distinctive, financially sustainable, and responsive to evolving student and workforce needs. Departments and faculty retain primary responsibility for their degree programs and curricula through established faculty-governance processes.
The Associate Dean provides College-wide leadership for academic portfolio strategy, enrollment and student success, curricular innovation, career readiness and experiential learning, graduate-program marketing, global programs, and academic program review. The position also contributes to College-wide strategy, resource allocation, accreditation, and organizational decision-making, while delegating routine academic operations to assistant deans, program directors, and professional staff.
Primary Responsibilities include:
Academic Portfolio Strategy and Innovation
- Lead strategic planning for undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, and certificate programs.
- Evaluate programs based on academic quality, demand, outcomes, capacity, and financial performance.
- Lead development of new programs, credentials, and delivery formats and recommend expansion, revision, consolidation, or discontinuation when appropriate.
- Promote curricular innovation, including integration of AI, analytics, experiential learning, and durable skills.
- Ensure program and curricular planning incorporates findings from Assurance of Learning and other assessment processes.
- Provide leadership and coordination across the College's academic portfolio.
- Supervise undergraduate and graduate academic leadership and establish expectations for program planning and performance.
- Partner with department heads and faculty program directors to support departmentally owned and jointly administered programs.
- Lead enrollment planning and monitor recruitment, enrollment, retention, completion, and student outcomes.
- Oversee University-required academic program reviews and ensure findings inform program and resource decisions.
- Provide strategic oversight of academic-program budgets, resource allocation, and financial performance.
- Align program growth with faculty, instructional, financial, and student-support capacity.
- Lead College-wide strategy for advising, retention, progression, completion, and the student academic experience.
- Oversee academic policies, exceptions, and appeals, addressing complex or precedent-setting matters.
- Represent the College with the Graduate School, Division of Academic and Student Affairs, and other relevant University offices.
- Partner with Career and Corporate Relations to integrate career readiness, employer perspectives, and professional competencies into academic programs.
- Support expansion of internships, practicums, applied projects, and other experiential-learning opportunities.
- Use employer, alumni, and career-outcome feedback to inform academic planning and curricular improvement.
- Supervise the Director of Marketing and align graduate-program marketing with enrollment and program priorities.
- Supervise the Director of Global Programs and align global opportunities and partnerships with College priorities.
- Evaluate marketing and global initiatives based on effectiveness, quality, strategic value, feasibility, and financial sustainability.
- Serve on the Dean's executive leadership team and contribute to College strategy, budgeting, accreditation, and organizational decision-making.
- Lead cross-functional academic initiatives and use evidence and outcomes to guide investment, expansion, modification, or discontinuation.
- Represent the College on relevant University committees and leadership groups.
- Undertake other responsibilities assigned by the Dean.

The Director of Career and Corporate Relations reports directly to the Dean and has a dotted-line relationship to the Associate Dean for Academic Programs for career readiness, employer-informed curriculum, and experiential learning. Annual priorities and performance expectations are jointly established by the Dean and both associate deans.

Working collaboratively with the Dean, department heads, faculty, academic leaders, and professional staff, the Associate Dean connects College-wide strategy with academic priorities and helps position Poole College to deliver distinctive, high-quality educational experiences across its undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, and certificate programs.
Other Work/Responsibilities:
- Represent Poole College, as needed, at College and University events.
- Regularly engage with key external stakeholders including prospective students, parents, alumni, corporate partners, Poole College Board of Advisors and community leaders.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean.
Minimum Experience/Education:
- Requires a doctoral degree in a business-related field with a minimum of three (3) years or greater of academic leadership experience.
- Experienced faculty member with a research record commensurate with that of a tenured full professor in a business discipline.
Required Qualifications:
- A terminal degree in a business discipline or closely related field.
- A record sufficient for appointment as a tenured professor in the college.
- Significant experience in academic-program leadership or administration.
- Understanding of faculty governance and curricular processes.
- Strong judgment, integrity, collaboration, and communication skills.
- A commitment to academic quality and student success.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience as an associate dean, assistant dean, department head, or program director.
- Experience overseeing multiple academic programs.
- Experience with enrollment planning, budgeting, or program review.
- Experience developing new programs or leading curricular change.
- Experience with student success, experiential learning, or career readiness.
- Experience managing professional staff in a research university.
