Job Details
Hawkeye Community College is looking for a full-time Associate Dean for Career and Technical Education to join our team.
The Associate Dean for Career and Technical Education (CTE) provides critical academic leadership, ensuring cohesion and consistency across career and technical programs. Supervisory responsibilities include assisting the deans in supervising adjunct faculty.
Additionally, the Associate Dean will offer support for various duties, including attending and reporting out for statewide meetings such as IDOE meetings, Guided Pathways Convening, discipline specific deans’ meetings, OER, etc. Furthermore, this role participates in college committee assignments, academic program review and assisting with accreditation: IDOE, HLC and NACEP as well as other duties as assigned.
Essential Job Functions
Academic Programs and Curriculum (Compliance and Coordination)
- Program Development: Under the Dean’s direction, assists with the administrative logistics of new academic programs and program revisions.
- Assessment and Curriculum: Works closely with the Associate Director of Curriculum and Assessment and connected standing committees to build and strengthen assessment initiatives and curriculum revisions.
- Accreditation Support: Assists faculty and Deans in providing data and information needed for key accreditation bodies, including NACEP, Iowa DOE, and the Higher Learning Commission (HLC).
- Workforce Initiatives: Serves as a college representative on statewide committees related to CTE such as career academies, Guided Pathways Convening and Statewide Transfer/Private College Transfer initiatives.
- Program Review: Consults with and assists faculty and Deans to complete the academic program review process efficiently for applicable programs.
- NACEP Management: Acts as a department contact for High School Partnerships to help manage and track NACEP faculty liaison responsibilities ensuring compliance for concurrent and Hawkeye instructors as well as curricular requirements.
- Assists with a variety of CTE special projects: Such as Hands on Scene in health, Global Ag and Career Fairs, as well as creating new projects for collaboration.
- Helps recruit or suggest faculty for the Adjunct Academy– a select professional development opportunity designed for adjunct faculty.
Student Success (Retention Focus)
- Data-Driven Planning: Collaborates with the Associate Director of Curriculum and Assessment to create a student progress plan tracking key metrics like retention, persistence, and graduation for various programs and transfer majors across the colleges.
- Student Support Partnership: Partners with the Student Tutoring Center (STC) to assist faculty with creating student support opportunities, including supplemental instruction and peer tutoring.
Faculty Affairs (Onboarding and Evaluation Support)
- New Faculty Support: Assists Deans with the orientation and onboarding of new full-time faculty and works with the Brobst Center to coordinate faculty mentoring programs.
- Professional Development: Offers insight and recommendations regarding faculty professional development that aligns with college strategic priorities.
- Co-chairs the Faculty In-service Committee with the Liberal Arts Associate Dean.
- Co-chairs the Adjunct In-service Committee with the Liberal Arts Associate Dean.
Cross-College and Institutional Activities
- Committee Representation: Represents the Deans on critical Academic Standing committees, including Academic Standards, Curriculum, Assessment, and Vision and Innovation.
- Strategic Planning: Supports the execution and tracking of goals related to the college strategic plan and aids with administrative succession planning.
- Contingency Operations: In a Dean’s absence, ensures continuity of routine administrative operations.
- External Representation: Available to represent the Deans on other state committees and institutional initiatives as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Unless otherwise approved under Hawkeye’s remote work policy, regular on campus and/or onsite attendance is considered an essential function of the position.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a related field.
- At least five years post-secondary teaching experience.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and inclusively as a team member and with a wide array of students.
- Organizational and planning skills, attention to detail, ability to work independently and function professionally under pressure.
Preferred Qualifications
- Supervisory experience.
- Curriculum development experience.
- Work experience in a community college environment.
Working Conditions
Anticipated schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. through 4:30 p.m. with occasional evening or weekends based on business need.
Work is performed either in or a combination of an office setting and/or classroom setting using technology. Requires good hand-eye coordination including visual acuity to use a keyboard and read technical information; arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp. Sit, stand, bend, lift and move frequently during working hours. During course of day, interact with students, faculty and staff in person, by telephone and computers.
Employment Status

- Salary will be determined based on the candidate’s education and experience and internal equity.
- The salary range for this position begins at $82,503.
