Manage overall academic budget; makes recommendations and
implements actions that increase funds.
Maintain personal academic faculty obligations in teaching,
service, and research in accordance with area of expertise.
Curriculum & Program Oversight
- Direct the development, assessment, and continuous improvement
of academic programs.
- Oversee curriculum review processes, course scheduling, and
academic catalog updates.
- Create synergy across the responsibilities of the Assistant
Dean for Undergraduate Programs, Assistant Dean for Graduate
Programs, PhD and DNP Program Directors and Program
Coordinators.
- Responsible for all academic documents and processes including
academic calendar, policies and procedures, master schedule,
timetables, handbooks, and catalog.
- Responsible for all clinical affiliation agreements, adjunct
faculty, and external academic reports and surveys.
- Provide development, support, and guidance to administrators
for whom are responsible .
- P repar e all administrative reports on academic programs.
- Develop and implement enrollment plans.
Accreditation & Quality Assurance
- Holds ultimate responsibility for maintaining accreditation
status of the School of Nursing's academic programs.
- Assume administrative accountability for ensuring the quality
of the degree-granting educational programs.
- Manage accreditation compliance, self-study reports, and
external agency reviews.
- Use data-driven insights and learning outcome assessments to
enhance academic quality.
- I mplement a continuous quality improvement process for
monitoring academic outcomes.
- Creates a seamless data management system for monitoring and
facilitating academic programs.
Faculty Affairs & Governance
- Responsible for faculty recruitment, onboarding, evaluation,
promotion, and tenure processes.
- Support faculty development, mentorship, and teaching
excellence.
- Facilitate shared governance and resolve faculty or academic
policy grievances.
- Conduct annual review of clinical faculty and academic affairs
staff.
- Establish productivity and workload standards in consultation
with faculty and other administrators.
Student Success & Administration
- Oversee delivery of student services and evaluates the Director
of Student Services.
- Coordinate activities of academic programs with
campus/university academic support systems to ensure a
well-integrated plan of operation compatible with the College of
Nursing's goals and mission.
- Address complex student academic concerns, appeals, and
petitions.
- Advise admissions, student services, and advising teams to
support retention and progression.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Earned doctorate (PhD or DNP) in nursing, education or
related field.
- Licensure as a registered nurse in Tennessee prior to
employment.
- Five years’ experience in academic nursing education with
increasing administrative responsibility.
- Professional experience commensurate with rank.
- Experience with accreditation, curriculum development, and
academic assessment.
- Demonstrated success in recruiting, mentoring, retaining, and
advocating for outstanding faculty, staff, and students.
- Experience with faculty reappointment, promotion, and
governance processes.
This position is open to those who qualify and can be appointed as
one of the following ranks in the College of Nursing. Rank
appointments are dependent on education and qualifications
relative to the university and college standards and will be
determined by academic leadership in accordance with faculty
handbook, policies, and procedures.
Tenure/Tenure Track Ranks
Professors are expected to
1. hold the doctorate or other terminal degree of the discipline,
or present equivalent training and experience appropriate to the
particular appointment
2. be accomplished teachers
3. have achieved and maintain a nationally recognized record in
disciplinary research / scholarship / creative activity/ engaged
scholarship
4. have achieved and maintain a record of significant
institutional, disciplinary, and/or professional service or
outreach engagement
5. serve as mentors to junior colleagues
6. have normally served as an associate professor for at least five
years
7. have shown beyond doubt that they work well with colleagues and
students in performing their university responsibilities
Associate professors are expected to
1. hold the doctorate or other terminal degree of the discipline,

the particular appointment
2. be good teachers
3. have achieved and maintain a recognized record in disciplinary
research / scholarship / creative activity/ engaged

Non-Tenure Track Ranks:
Clinical professor:
This rank is for those who have completed a doctoral degree or
terminal degree appropriate to the field and who are licensed or
certified to practice the profession where appropriate .
Individuals holding this rank have demonstrated a consistent record
of excellence in areas of responsibility assigned to them.
Clinical associate professor:
This rank is for those who have completed a doctoral degree or
terminal degree appropriate to the field and who are licensed or
certified to practice the profession where appropriate .
Individuals holding this rank have demonstrated excellence in areas
of responsibility assigned to them.
