Summary of Position
The Associate Dean of Instructional Excellence and Technology provides leadership to advance teaching, learning, and academic innovation at the College. This role serves as the technical administrator for the Learning Management System (LMS) and related instructional tools and supervises the instructional technology team and the Director of the Teaching and Learning Center (TLC). The Associate Dean works collaboratively with faculty, staff, and administrators to promote instructional excellence, support faculty development, and lead the adoption of emerging technologies.
This position ensures that instructional practices align with accreditation and compliance standards and reflect principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and accessibility (DEIBA). The Associate Dean oversees course quality initiatives, supports inclusive and effective teaching practices across all modalities, and fosters continuous improvement through data-informed strategies. As a member of the Academic Affairs leadership team, the Associate Dean also contributes to strategic planning, cross-functional collaboration, and external engagement related to instructional innovation and excellence.
Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Expertise in LMS management and instructional systems.
- Deep understanding of andragogy.
- Knowledge of WCAG 2.0 Level AA accessibility and online quality assurance frameworks.
- Demonstrated ability to lead people, projects, and budgets in a complex academic environment.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills across diverse settings and audiences.
- Ability to provide information and training through synchronous and asynchronous experiences.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and accessibility in teaching and learning.
- Ability to foster innovation while ensuring compliance with accreditation and system standards.
Required Qualifications
- Relevant education and experience demonstrated through one of the following: 1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and five years of relevant experience in education, curriculum and instruction, instructional design, or related field. 2. Master's degree from an accredited institution and three years of relevant experience in education, curriculum and instruction, instructional design, or related field.
- Leadership, supervisory, budgetary, and administrative experience in higher education at a director level or higher.
- Experience managing LMS systems like D2L, Blackboard and/or Canvas.
Preferred Qualifications
- Quality Matters certification or similar online quality assurance credential.
- Demonstrated experience providing professional development to faculty and instructors using instructional technology or andragogy
- Experience with course design tools such as EvaluationKIT, Respondus, YuJa, SoftChalk, and Simple Syllabus.
Physical & Cognitive Demands
The following are some of the physical and cognitive demands commonly associated with this position.
- Occasionally moves, positions, and transports files and office materials weighing up to 10 lbs.
- This is largely a sedentary role. This position operates in an office environment and constantly uses a computer, and routinely uses standard office equipment including phones, copiers, etc.
- The person in this position constantly communicates with internal and external constituents and students. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
- Cognitive demands include comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, synthesizing, negotiating, communicating, instructing, and interpersonal skills.

Starting Salary
Starting salary range for this position is $92,182 - $101,400 annually, commensurate with education and experience. This is a full-time, FLSA-exempt position. This position has been exempted from the State Classified System.
