Associate Dean of the School of Business and Leadership
Reporting to the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts, Sciences, Business, and Education (CLASBE) at Nazareth University, the Associate Dean (AD) of the School of Business and Leadership (SBL) will provide a compelling vision for SBL and lead the development of a strong internal and external identity for the School. The AD will leverage and amplify current strengths and capture new opportunities to grow undergraduate and graduate enrollments, maintain and expand community connections and strategic partnerships, raise awareness and the profile of the SBL, and lead the securement of funds for both special initiatives and operational strengthening. The AD works with a chairperson of the School and the Program Directors (PDs) of the undergraduate and graduate programs to support the programs, faculty, staff, and students. The Associate Dean is a 12-month, primarily administrative position. Teaching opportunities will be considered, in consultation with the Dean of CLASBE.
The Associate Dean:
- Works closely with the Dean of CLASBE to attract students to the field of Business and Leadership, promote enrollment growth, strategize new community partnerships, and create a thriving SBL
- Stays current in the field of business and leadership education, relevant job markets, and emerging trends in the field
- Works collaboratively inside and outside the SBL
Enrollment and Recruitment:
- Leads strategic visioning, including studying current prospective student pipelines and re-envisioning new sources of prospective students and yield strategies with a robust enrollment growth plan
- Coordinates marketing of programs with Marketing and Communications and Enrollment Management
- In conjunction with the Chair, PDs, and other faculty and staff, coordinate SBL activities at the Job and Internship Fair, Naz College Fair, external recruitment events, and alumni events
Program Support and Development:
- Formulates goals and long-range plans with faculty with respect to both program and unit curriculum development, revision, and implementation
- Leads new program development and registration with the New York State Education Department
- Oversees catalog revisions, done in consultation with Chair and PDs
- Leads conversion of selected programs to online formats
- Participates in analysis and revision of documents and assessment instruments
- Ensures continuation of the dozens of current partnerships and seeks new ones
- Evaluates existing partnerships for modification or sunsetting
- Oversees all undergraduate and graduate programs in the School of Business and Leadership, including but not limited to, curriculum development, assessment, new program development, staffing, advising, and scheduling
Budget and Revenue Generation
- Oversees SBL operating budget
- Identifies and secures appropriate grant opportunities and funding from potential donors and organizations (vetted with Dean of CLASBE, Director of ORSI, and Advancement, as appropriate)
- Works with the relevant offices to generate ideas, develop, and implement SBL offerings for revenue generation (e.g., summer camps and workshops)
Reporting, Accreditation, and Assessment
- Secures and Maintains IACBE accreditation
- Maintains existing accreditations, memberships, certifications, and other programmatic credentials
- Identify standards for new accreditations of undergraduate and graduate program(s) and pursue appropriate accreditations
- Oversees SBL assessment plan and processes
Community Engagement and Partnerships
- Supports and creates community partnerships
- Creates and hosts academic program advisory groups, including the SBL Advisory Council, in partnership with Program Directors, Advancement, and other campus offices
- Partners with Advancement, the Center for Life’s Work, trustees, alumni, volunteers, and organizations to establish and develop relationships for recruitment, internship and job placement, and curricular and co-curricular development
- Represents SBL at internal events (e.g., capstone celebrations, honor society inductions, new faculty celebrations, etc.)
Full-time Faculty (Following the Guidelines in the Faculty Manual)
- Evaluates full-time faculty, including ensuring the completion of course evaluations and yearly evaluations of faculty
- Mentors and evaluates all full-time faculty
- Coordinates with Senior Faculty to provide pre-tenure feedback to faculty candidates
- In consultation with SBL faculty, recommend to the Dean of CLASBE faculty for renewal of appointment, promotion, tenure or terminal appointment
- Oversees the recruitment of prospective full-time faculty following established guidelines for search and hiring
- Composes the “Chairs’” letters for tenure and promotion processes
- Evaluates applications for internal funding
- In collaboration with the Dean of CLASBE, determines faculty reassignments and workload
- Evaluates and signs off on Travel/Professional Development Funding
- Evaluates and signs off on full-time faculty sabbatical applications
- Oversees elevated student issues (as per guidelines in the Academic Catalog)
Other
- Performs additional duties requested by the Dean of CLASBE
- Fosters collegiality and collaboration within and between programs within SBL and among the other schools and colleges at Nazareth
Required Skills, Knowledge, Abilities, and Competencies
- Current earned doctorate or commensurate terminal degree
- Specialized accreditation experience
- Faculty appointment at the level of Associate Professor or Professor (May be Tenured/Tenure Track, Clinical, or Professional Practice)
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
- Relevant leadership experience (e.g., department chair, program director, or other significant governance leadership)
- Experience handling sensitive issues with keen judgment, diplomacy, tact and confidentiality
- Strong project management skills and a can-do attitude
- Critical thinking and analytical skills
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively
- Record of creating and sustaining collaborative relationships
