Position Summary:

The Associate Director of Alumni Engagement will work alongside and under the direction of the Associate Vice President of Alumni Engagement to help develop and execute a comprehensive alumni engagement plan including but not limited to a full event calendar, ongoing digital and traditional communication, volunteer management, and other related initiatives. In alignment with the college's strategic plan and overarching goals, including increased alumni engagement and philanthropy, the associate director will assist with managing a large roster of mid- and large-scale events — both in person and virtual — and help strategize for, establish, and oversee new alumni-focused programs and engagement opportunities. This person serves as the external communication lead for the office, supervises the Alumni Engagement Coordinator and the Alumni Engagement Officer, and assists with volunteer management. This position will require some travel as well as evening and weekend work as needed.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Oversee, ensure quality of, and produce Alumni Engagement communications and publications: manage the website, plan and distribute regular email and traditional messages to target audiences, and handle day-to-day oversight of social media accounts.
  • Co-manage (with AVP) a full roster of events that range from Alumni Homecoming Fest and Alumni Weekend to virtual professional workshops and networking opportunities to regional presidential receptions and chapter reunions.
  • Develop, manage, and grow alumni-focused programs related to career mentorship, corporate partnerships, volunteer stewardship, affinity groups, and campaign support.
  • Collaborate with Advancement Services colleagues on alumni database maintenance and growth strategies.
  • Develop strong partnerships within the division and throughout the college to best support alumni-based initiatives, particularly those that align with overall college priorities.
  • Track and evaluate the success of alumni engagement efforts through metrics such as event attendance, participation rates, and alumni feedback.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in alumni engagement and/or advancement.
  • Prior supervisory experience, specifically managing workflow, training new hires, and providing direction and support.
  • Experience with writing and editing for marketing and a familiarity with branding.
  • Experience in a higher education environment.
  • A data-driven mindset and the ability to leverage metrics, analytics, and assessment tools to measure engagement and optimize resources.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills along with the ability to manage volunteers and effectively represent the office in collaborative efforts with alumni, faculty, staff, donors, and key stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with customer resource management (CRM) platforms as well as with website management, email marketing, and social media platforms.
  • Solid organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask and prioritize while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to effectively supervise and mentor the Alumni Engagement Coordinator and the Alumni Engagement Officer.
  • Ability to travel and to work nights and weekends to participate in board meetings and other alumni events, programs, and activities.

Persons with disabilities may request reasonable accommodations in order to perform the essential functions of the position. If the requested accommodation(s) cannot be made because it would cause the employer undue hardship, the applicant may not be eligible for the position.

Employer Qualifications:

Final offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check and reference checks.
