Associate Director, Door Access Hardware
Job Summary
Manages assigned staff on multiple locations who are responsible for performing all general, preventative, and supportive maintenance tasks of door access systems and products. Responsibilities include oversite of new installations, troubleshooting, upgrades, and ongoing maintenance of access control hardware. Additionally, offers general IT support for user sites related to access control and proprietary software. Provides emergency and corrective and/or preventative maintenance as needed.
Responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manages assigned staff responsible for installing and servicing electronic and mechanical locks across multiple campuses
- Responsible for the hiring, training, and performance management of assigned team
- Oversees and manages customer requests and work orders through the ticketing software, including ensuring tasks are assigned to appropriate staff, promptly completed, and periodically reviewed for accuracy and proper support
- Initiates processes, coordinates logistics, and manages all aspects of door hardware, and hard keys for all university locations
- Assists departmental leadership with supervising contractors and work performance
- Provides support in and recommendations in preparing bid documents, prepares written and electronic documentation
- Collaborates with department leaders in the creation of and maintenance of door access policies, processes, and standards
- Ensures all work is performed within established guidelines, processes, procedures, and appropriate preventative maintenance completed in accordance with governing and university regulations
- Works with campus partners to ensure all new construction projects and renovations meet established standards and regulations including sections 8 and 28, fire doors and hardware, and ADA compliance hardware standards
- Manages all hardware purchases and inventory of the door access hardware, equipment, and supplies
- Collaborates with the division customer service team to ensure excellent communication and customer service is provided to students, faculty, staff, and other university affiliates
- Capable of complex lock installations and maintenance work, including detection and correction of mechanical failures
- Capable of maintaining ADA operators and ADA door hardware to maintain code compliance
- Responds to service calls outside of standard business hours to address safety risks and urgent security concerns
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
Required Experience
Seven (7) years of progressive experience in access control including managerial or supervisory experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Additional Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in higher education
Experience with direct oversite of field technicians
Previous experience with lock installations at a higher education institution
Direct technical and/or administrative support of one or more electronic access control systems, particular experience with SALTO System
Preferred Educational Qualifications
An advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a related field
Preferred Experience
Working knowledge of Medeco or similar key systems
Working knowledge of ServiceNow and Smartsheet
Completion of an appropriate Locksmith Apprenticeship Program, Door Hardware Institute (DHI) or SALTO Systems Installer Certification
American Association of Automatic Manufacturers Certification (AAADM)
Fire Door Inspection Program Certification
Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Training
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
ABILITIES
Able to diagnose malfunctions and defects in equipment and tools and determine the appropriate corrective measures
Able to understand and comply with building codes, electrical codes, fire codes, plumbing codes, and other technical standards and specifications
Keeps up to date with industry improvements, technology advancements, and best practices to ensure best-in-class university ID card program solutions
Able to learn new software and technology systems
Able to work autonomously and to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
Able to handle multiple tasks or projects at one-time meeting assigned deadlines
KNOWLEDGE
Working knowledge of access control software
Knowledgeable and skilled in the installation and maintenance of remote electronic access control devices, door locking hardware, and related networking equipment
Working knowledge of mechanical and electronic key system hardware
Knowledge of methods, practices, tools, equipment, and materials, used in a variety of Locksmith trade
Knowledge of low voltage devices for installations, connection, repair, and replacement.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions in the use of tools and equipment
SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem-solving, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management, and presentation skills
Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e., Microsoft Office suite, SALTO System, Medeco or similar key systems, ServiceNow and Smartsheet)
Strong attention to detail and follow up skills
Strong customer service skills and phone and e-mail etiquette
