Position Summary
The
Associate Director for Curriculum and Educational
Effectiveness provides strategic leadership,
administrative oversight, and operational management for
university-wide initiatives that advance educational effectiveness
and the assessment of student learning across the University at
Buffalo. Reporting to the Associate Director (Interim) of the
Office of
Curriculum, Assessment and Teaching Transformation
(CATT), this position leads the University's annual
academic program assessment reporting process, comprehensive
program review, Middle States Commission on Higher Education
(MSCHE) accreditation activities, and other institutional
assessment initiatives that support continuous improvement,
educational effectiveness, and student success.
The Associate Director oversees the planning, implementation, and
continuous enhancement of institutional processes that ensure
compliance with university, SUNY, and accreditation requirements
while promoting a culture of evidence-informed decision-making and
continuous improvement. Working collaboratively with academic
leadership, faculty, assessment coordinators, governance
committees, and institutional partners, the position develops and
implements policies, procedures, technologies, and professional
development that strengthen assessment practices and the meaningful
use of evidence to improve teaching, learning, and academic
programs.
As the operational leader of the Curriculum and Educational
Effectiveness department within CATT, the Associate Director
supervises professional staff responsible for assessment operations
and educational effectiveness initiatives, establishes departmental
priorities, manages complex institutional projects, and ensures the
successful execution of strategic objectives. The position provides
strategic oversight of institutional assessment technologies,
reporting infrastructure, and related business processes to improve
operational effectiveness, data quality, and institutional
reporting.
The Associate Director serves as the University's subject matter
expert on assessment, educational effectiveness, and accreditation,
advising university leadership and academic units on institutional
policies, regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and
national best practices. In partnership with colleagues responsible
for curriculum governance and faculty development, the position
contributes to a coordinated institutional approach to advancing
academic quality and student learning.
Key Duties and Responsibilities include:
- Provide strategic leadership for university-wide student
learning outcomes and program assessment initiatives, including
annual assessment reporting, to advance student learning and
continuous improvement.
Lead the assessment and educational effectiveness components of
institutional accreditation and Comprehensive Program Review,
ensuring compliance with university, SUNY, and accreditation
standards.
Direct the Curriculum and Educational Effectiveness department
by supervising professional staff, establishing priorities,
managing resources, and fostering organizational excellence.
Provide data reporting to units, programs, and departments for
evidence-informed decision-making.
Serve as the University's senior consultant on assessment and
educational effectiveness by providing campus leadership, strategic
consultation, professional development, and cross-functional
collaboration.

Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree or professional certification with 1 year of
experience. A combination of education and experience may be
considered in lieu of a degree on a year for year basis.
- Professional experience in higher education with demonstrated
responsibility for institutional assessment, accreditation,
educational effectiveness, institutional research, academic program
review, or related functions.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and communicate assessment data
to inform decision-making and continuous improvement.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication
skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading complex, university-wide projects and
initiatives involving multiple stakeholders.
- Experience interpreting and applying accreditation standards
and assessment best practices.
- Experience supervising professional staff and managing
organizational priorities.
- Doctoral degree in Higher Education, Educational Leadership,
Assessment, Evaluation, Organizational Leadership, or a related
discipline.
- Seven or more years of progressively responsible leadership
experience in assessment or institutional effectiveness within a
research university.
- Experience with MSCHE accreditation or other
regional/programmatic accreditation processes.
- Experience administering assessment management systems.
- Experience supporting Comprehensive Program Review or academic
quality assurance initiatives.
- Knowledge of SUNY policies, higher education governance, and
assessment of student learning.
- Experience with data visualization, business intelligence, or
analytics tools.
- Experience applying artificial intelligence or emerging
technologies to improve assessment and institutional effectiveness
processes.
Physical Demands
Salary Range
$98,500 - $101,000
