Job Summary:
The University of Colorado School of Medicine (CUSOM) seeks an innovative and collaborative Associate Director of the Longitudinal Ultrasound curriculum (0.1 FTE). The Associate Director will be responsible for working with the Director of the Ultrasound Curriculum, the Associate and Assistant Deans of Medical Education, SOM faculty, departments, other curriculum deans and other SOM personnel to create, implement, evaluate, and continuously improve the robust 4-year vertical integrated point-of-care ultrasound curriculum at the medical school. This position will require that the faculty be comfortable and facile in all areas of point-of-care ultrasound.
Supervision Received: Reports directly to the faculty Director of Ultrasound.
Supervision Exercised: This position has no direct supervision.
Key Responsibilities:
Administration
- Ensure adequate orientation including content, scheduling, assessment, grading, organization, and course execution.
- Serve as a resource and communicate in a timely manner (generally within two business days) with students, administrative staff, and faculty.
- Assistance in the maintenance and upkeep of the curriculum equipment.
Curriculum Execution and Program Innovation
- Create and implement a hands-on integrated longitudinal ultrasound curriculum, including learning objectives, curriculum, hands on didactics and lectures, and assessments.
- Provide direct teaching to students in all phases of the curriculum.
Curriculum Review, Continuous Quality Improvement, and Accreditation
- Track, monitor, assess, and identify areas for improvement within the longitudinal curriculum with the goal of continuous quality improvement or as dictated by the curriculum oversight bodies.
- With the assistance of the OME Office of Assessment, Evaluation, and Outcomes (AEO) evaluate the effectiveness of the course in achieving learning outcomes.
- Contribute to scholarly activity related to implementation and outcomes of the Longitudinal Ultrasound Curriculum.
Student Assessment and Grading
- Support faculty in their teaching and assessment.
- Ensure all grades are submitted in a timely manner.
Faculty Recruitment, Support & Development
- Recruit and develop faculty to teach in the curriculum.
- Provide ongoing feedback, support, and remediation as needed to faculty.
Work Location: Hybrid – this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule as needed for teaching and in-person meetings.

Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire. This is an open rank position and could be categorized as Instructor, Senior Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below: Instructor: Must hold an M.D., D.O degree or equivalent terminal degree. Eligible for a faculty appointment in the CU School of Medicine at the Professor rank. At least 5 years of experience in medical education or healthcare education, including curriculum development, clinical education, or program management. Senior Instructor: Must hold an M.D., D.O degree or equivalent terminal degree. Eligible for a faculty appointment in the CU School of Medicine at the Professor rank. At least 5 years of experience in medical education or healthcare education, including teaching, curriculum development, clinical education, or program management. Assistant Professor: Must hold an M.D., D.O degree or equivalent terminal degree. Eligible for a faculty appointment in the CU School of Medicine at the Professor rank. At least 5 years of experience in medical education or healthcare education, including curriculum development, clinical education, or program management. Associate Professor: Must hold an M.D., D.O degree or equivalent terminal degree. Eligible for a faculty appointment in the CU School of Medicine at the Professor rank. Preferred Qualifications: Advanced Ultrasound Education and Training. Knowledge and experience of the CU School of Medicine and its curriculum. Demonstrated experience with both medical student didactic and clinical curricula. Prior Medical Education leadership experience. Prior experience teaching a medical student course. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Excellent written and oral communication. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships across multidisciplinary teams. Strong understanding of clinical education models and medical education curricula. Ability to cultivate relationships with people who enjoy teaching, who can inspire students and support the educational process and values of life-long learning of the CU School of Medicine.
