Anticipated Hiring Range
$7,500 - $7,917 Per Month ($90,000 - $95,004 Annually)
Salary is commensurate with experience.

Position Summary
San Francisco State University is seeking a dynamic and strategic professional to serve as the Associate Director of Alumni Relations - Affinity & Engagement Programs. This role is responsible for developing and managing alumni affinity groups, enhancing on-campus alumni engagement, and expanding outreach to alumni in their workplaces and regions. The ideal candidate will be a relationship-builder with a passion for inclusive engagement, strategic collaboration, and alumni relations best practices.

Position Information

  • Affinity Group Development & Support
    • Develop, launch, and manage alumni affinity groups based on college, major, region (including international), personal interest, and identity.
    • Serve as the primary liaison for affinity group leaders, providing strategic guidance, resources, and ongoing support.
    • Host information sessions and workshops for alumni interested in joining or launching new affinity groups.
    • Create and maintain "event toolboxes" to support regional and identity-based alumni groups in planning and executing events.
  • On-Campus Alumni Engagement
    • Design and implement opportunities for alumni to engage with the university community through campus events, mentorship programs, and student-alumni initiatives.
    • Collaborate with campus partners to integrate alumni into academic, cultural, and career development programming.
    • Lead planning and execution of on-campus alumni events that foster pride, connection, and intergenerational engagement.
    • Collaborate with individual college partners to enhance, promote, and further develop their alumni engagement and outreach strategies.
  • Alumni @ Work & Regional Outreach
    • Lead the new "Alumni @ Work" initiative by coordinating on-site visits, networking mixers, and career panels at alumni workplaces.
    • Build and maintain relationships with alumni in key regions and industries to strengthen professional networks and university visibility.
    • Support regional alumni groups in organizing events and maintaining active engagement.
  • Strategic Collaboration & Best Practices
    • Work with Career & Leadership Development team to ensure cohesive programming and shared goals.
    • Stay current with alumni relations best practices and incorporate data-driven strategies and inclusive engagement models.
    • Evaluate program effectiveness through feedback, participation metrics, and impact assessments.
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to increase the percentage of alumni participating in university-sponsored activities and engaging through communication channels. This will be achieved by:
      • Utilizing segmentation, personalized outreach, and multi-channel communication to foster meaningful connections
      • Leveraging data analytics to identify engagement trends and opportunities, with the goal of building a robust pipeline for future alumni donors
      • Incorporating industry best practices to align engagement efforts with philanthropic outcomes.
  • Other Duties as Assigned

Preferred Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in alumni relations, student affairs, community engagement, or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in program development, volunteer management, and event planning.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with diverse populations.

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in higher education, nonprofit management, or related field.
  • Experience working with affinity groups or identity-based communities.
  • Familiarity with alumni engagement platforms and CRM systems.

Environmental/Physical/Special
Hybrid work schedule with occasional evening and weekend events. Some travel required for regional alumni outreach and workplace visits
