Associate Director of Athletics Development
In this high-impact leadership role, you will be instrumental in driving annual giving for Dartmouth Athletics by managing a robust portfolio of “Friends Of” alumni volunteer groups. Responsible for raising $2M–$4M in current-use, team-restricted philanthropy annually, you will build strong relationships with alumni, coaches, campus partners, and volunteers to advance strategic priorities and promote a culture of philanthropy across Dartmouth’s athletics community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Volunteer Fundraising Management:
- Lead 14–18 “Friends Of” volunteer groups, recruiting, training, and equipping alumni fundraising committees with the tools to succeed.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to set ambitious, data-informed fundraising goals for each varsity sport.
- Serve as the main point of contact for all assigned Friends groups, providing strategic counsel, managing communications, and ensuring strong follow-through.
- Develop comprehensive fundraising plans, including solicitation calendars and communications strategies tailored to each team.
- Partner closely with Advancement officers and athletics leadership to align fundraising strategies with broader institutional goals.
- Produce regular data-driven reports and forecasts, ensuring transparency and progress tracking across departments.
- Support stewardship efforts in partnership with the Recognition and Stewardship teams to ensure meaningful donor engagement.
- Special Events & Engagements:
- Coordinate with colleagues to plan and execute high-level athletic events designed to engage prospects, strengthen volunteer networks, and showcase program priorities.
- Attend select games and events, including occasional travel, representing Dartmouth Athletics, and cultivating donor relationships.
Who You Are:
A dynamic and experienced fundraiser with a bachelor’s degree and a proven track record of securing and stewarding major gifts in a higher education or athletics context. You bring at least eight years of progressive experience in development or alumni engagement, preferably within an annual giving environment.
You have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and are confident working with senior leadership, trustees, and advisory boards. You are data-savvy, strategic, and highly organized—able to manage multiple initiatives with minimal oversight. You thrive in a fast-paced environment, and your creativity and initiative make you a valued team player and leader. You bring a deep appreciation for college athletics, strong volunteer management expertise, and a service-oriented mindset. Proficiency in Excel and CRM tools is essential, and familiarity with fundraising in complex organizations is a plus.
Work Location: Primarily on-site due to the collaborative nature of this role. We understand that flexibility is important, and while remote work may be accommodated occasionally, the core responsibilities of this position are best supported through an in-person working environment.
