The Associate Director of Disability Services will work with the Senior Director of Student Services to assist students with disabilities in requesting, planning and implementing academic accommodations and supports; counsel and advise students; manage disability and accommodation related data; and attend University-wide and Harvard Kennedy school meetings where a Disability Services presence is needed.

  • Assist in reviewing and interpreting disability related documentation to determine eligibility for services and accommodations for students with disabilities
  • Assist in meeting individually with students to assess, verify, and facilitate their requests for accommodations and services
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and assessment of appropriate academic support services and accommodations under ADA, Section 504, and any related university policies and/or procedures
  • Ensure students are well informed of their responsibilities in relation to their accommodations
  • Coordinate and implement testing accommodations and be present on campus for all exam days
  • Coordinate and implement a range of accommodation supports such as note taking services; assistive technology; alternate transportation; alternative course materials; physical assistive items, etc.
  • Working with University Disability Resources, arrange all sign language interpreters and CART providers for students who are deaf or hard of hearing
  • Maintain Student Accessibility Services records of activities with students, including communications, documentation, meeting notes, approved accommodations, etc. in accordance with State/Federal law and University regulations
  • Implement and oversee technology related to documentation systems, data collection, service coordination, and reporting systems, ensuring best practices and appropriate access
  • Coordinate student and guest accommodations for all HKS commencement related events
  • In the absence of the Sr. Director, serves as secondary contact for disability related student crises and urgent matters, updating the Associate Dean for Degree Programs, Program Director’s, and others as needed on the matter
  • Assist the Sr. Director in providing technical assistance, consultation, and guidance to faculty and staff regarding the implementation of reasonable accommodations for specific students
  • With the Sr. Director, represent the department at campus meetings and committees where Disability Services presence is essential
  • Assist the Sr. Director by giving inputs and data for the departmental budget
  • Assist the Sr. Director with the Strategic Planning and Annual Reporting

Additional responsibilities:

  • As a full member of the Student Services team:
  • Be available to work very occasional evenings and weekends, as required, for event coverage
  • Assist in additional commencement related duties
  • Provide coverage for on campus duties in the absence of other team members
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Sr. Director

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in an office setting
  • May be required to work nights and weekends
