Job Summary
Provide strong leadership and management for the Planning & Design Department within Facilities. Coordinates the Planning and Design and/or modification of the physical facilities, facilities infrastructure, and real property associated with operating the campuses. Directs and oversees project designers, interior designer and specialists, landscape architect, and related team of individuals involved in major facilities project planning, design and/or construction management. Assists with recommendations to the Director on all institutional policies and procedures related to the management of facilities design, and construction.
This position is open to internally active employees of Georgia Southern University.
Responsibilities
- Work with the Director to oversee the planning, programming and design for new facilities and for repair and renovation projects for existing university buildings as well as the responsibility for providing accurate estimates for those projects
- Direct and coordinate the activities of design professional consultants involved with projects for the University
- Provide strong leadership and management for a staff of design professionals composed of designers, specialists, interiors specialists, landscape architects, project managers, and support staff
- Collaborates with Associate Director of Construction in master planning activities, management of capital projects and other projects, the development of long-range capital improvement plans for the university and the preparation of annual reports outlining those plans for the Board of Regents
- Coordinate with the appropriate campus user groups and agencies to develop complete comprehensive programs for all facility related construction projects and to provide accurate estimates throughout the process
- Oversee, manage and provide direction as necessary in the development of engineering and architectural designs for alteration, renovation, repair, and maintenance projects
- Assist and participate in the selection of professional engineering and architectural consultants for various projects and studies for the University
- Assist with management of the Facilities Condition Analysis database for the University and develop funding strategies for reducing the backlog of deferred maintenance. Develop and manage the University's annual Major Repair and Rehabilitation (MRR) program for submission to the Board
- Recommend and advise the Director in the implementation of campus-wide design standards for both new construction and alteration/renovation projects and to ensure compliance with those standards in all campus projects and execution of the Facilities Mission
- Collaborate with the Physical Plant maintenance personnel as well as the campus community by providing engineering, technical and architectural assistance as necessary
- Represent the interests of Georgia Southern University in all project related activities including review of plans, monitoring and inspection of construction activities and materials, final inspection, and warranty enforcement Responsible for the management of technical library, drawing files, and the AutoCAD document database

- Strive to promote the image of the Division of Facilities Services throughout the campus community by insuring customer satisfaction with the delivery of design and construction services. Follow all safety and other risk management policies in the performance of work
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree
Required Experience
- 5 or more years' the field of Engineering, Construction Management or related field
Preferred Qualifications
Additional Preferred Qualifications
- Proficient with Revit, Sketchup, AutoCad and other design software technology
- Familiar with Georgia design and building codes
Preferred Educational Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in engineering, architecture or related field
Preferred Experience
- Five (5) or more years' related experience field of Engineering, Construction Management or related field of higher education
- Experience in planning in the field of Higher Education
Proposed Salary
$68,369 - $88,934
This is an exempt position paid on a monthly basis.
