Responsibilities and Duties
Marketing Strategy and Communications Leadership
- Develop, execute, and evaluate an integrated, multi-channel marketing and communications strategy that promotes SHAW's four core areas (Campus Recreation, Health Center, Counseling Services, and Health Promotion & Prevention Education) while building a cohesive SHAW brand across campus.
Creative Services and Student Marketing Operations
- Lead SHAW's centralized student marketing operation, providing creative direction, quality assurance, and technical oversight across graphic design, photography, video, social media, and digital production.
- Recruit, hire, train, supervise, mentor, and evaluate graduate assistants and undergraduate student employees; develop partnerships with relevant academic programs, including Marketing, Mass Communication, and Graphic Design, to strengthen recruitment pipelines and provide high-impact student employment and professional development opportunities.
- Develop a tiered student leadership structure, utilizing graduate assistants and experienced student employees as appropriate to support day-to-day workflow coordination, project tracking, peer mentoring, and continuity of operations as students transition from their roles.
- Provide professional review of student-produced content to ensure quality, accessibility, message effectiveness, and alignment with university, divisional, and SHAW brand standards.
- Allocate student creative resources across SHAW based on departmental needs, strategic priorities, project volume, deadlines, and available capacity, providing dedicated or specialized support where operational needs warrant.
Marketing Operations, Workflow and Analytics
- Establish and refine centralized project intake, prioritization, and routing systems to efficiently allocate work across student staff, templates, self-service tools, University Marketing and Communications, and external vendors.
- Develop and maintain shared design templates, brand resources, and content calendars to reduce redundant work and streamline recurring departmental requests.
- Oversee analytics for web, social media, and marketing campaigns; use performance data to refine strategy, strengthen engagement, and assess marketing effectiveness.
- Partner with SHAW departments to anticipate recurring marketing needs, establish appropriate planning timelines, and identify opportunities for advance production, batching, and reuse of existing assets.
- Monitor request volume, team capacity, project turnaround times, and other operational metrics to inform resource allocation and staffing decisions and provide periodic reports on marketing outcomes to SHAW leadership.
The work schedule for this position may include evenings and weekends as needed.
Telework may be available for this position up to two days per week following the completion of 90 days of service in good standing.
Qualifications and Skills
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Graphic Design, Mass Communication, or a closely related field.
- Five years of professional experience in marketing, communications, creative services, or a related field.
- Two years of experience leading or supervising others, which may include professional staff, project teams, student employees, interns, graduate assistants, or freelancers.
- Demonstrated experience creating, directing, or managing content across at least two communication channels, such as digital/social media, print, web, email, or multimedia.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in marketing, communications, public relations, higher education, business, or a related field.
- Proficiency in web development, social medica and workflow management tools (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), Hootsuite, Trello, Monday.com) or equivalent project management tools
- Experience in marketing or communications within higher education, student affairs, public health, healthcare, wellness, or another mission-driven environment.
- Experience leading a centralized or high-volume marketing or creative operation, including project intake, prioritization, and resource allocation.
- Experience developing strategic communications for senior leaders and/or building structured student employees, interns, or professional development programs.
