Associate Director, Orientation and Family Programs

The Associate Director of Orientation and Family Programs is responsible for the management and general administration of the operational activities for Orientation and Family Programs. This role is responsible for handling a variety of moderately complex assigned projects and/or programs and provides supervision, leadership and direction to full-time and part-time staff in the planning, development, coordination and delivery of orientation programming and operations.

Core Responsibilities

  1. Manages the day to day operations of the Orientation and Family Programs office.
  2. Supervises full-time staff and student staff members.
  3. Plans, implements, produces and evaluates all orientation programming (online and in-person).
  4. Coordinates all of the supporting logistical and personnel aspects of orientation.
  5. Coordinates the implementation, on-going maintenance and evaluation of the online orientation reservation system and the online orientation experience system.
  6. Coordinates all of the department website, forms, social media and communication logistics as related to orientation.
  7. Develops, implements and maintains policies and procedures for assigned areas of responsibility.
  8. Assists with strategic planning and assessment efforts for Orientation & Family Programs along with other administrative responsibilities, including budget and operations.
  9. Co-instructs the Orientation Leader spring training workshop series or leadership class-EDL 4953-as applicable.
  10. Assists with department and division special projects and initiatives.
  11. Attends regional, state and national conferences as necessary.
  12. Serves on committees throughout campus.
  13. Represents Senior Director when needed on committees or meetings across campus or in external environment.
  14. Assists the Senior Director with the administration of New Student Programs & Events programs and staff as needed.
  15. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Four (4) years of progressively responsible management experience in a student advisory/counseling/service capacity, or enrollment management/service capacity, which may include orientation, new student conference, admissions, recruitment, financial aid, one-stop, registrar, advising student activities, student life or other related student-oriented program/office with some supervisory experience.
  • This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Four (4) years of higher education, orientation, or new student conference experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated organizational, written, and verbal communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
  • Skilled use of standard office equipment, including a standard PC.

Working Conditions

  • Office environment.
  • Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions or other business-related events.
  • Occasional after hours and weekend work or overtime may be required.

Physical Demands

  • Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary, if walking and standing are required, only occasionally.
  • Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally.
  • This position requires walking long distances, long periods of standing, and use of stairs.

This position will be primarily located on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.
