Associate Director, Research Innovation

Job Summary

The Associate Director of Research Innovation - Alana Welm Lab will report directly to Dr. Alana Welm at the Huntsman Cancer Institute. The ADRI will support advancement of the Welm lab's innovation initiatives toward commercialization.

Responsibilities

• Participating in Dr. Welm's lab to further understand and develop expertise in commercializable technology.
• Developing and implementing strategies to identify, support, and advance high-impact research with commercial potential.
• Leading efforts to foster interdisciplinary collaboration among researchers to tackle complex challenges.
• Acting as a liaison between the university's research enterprise and commercial partners to ensure mutual benefit.
• Managing associated budgets and resources for innovation program and projects.
• Establishing metrics to evaluate the success and impact of innovation initiatives.

Master's degree in Business Administration or related area preferred.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Business or Public Administration, a related area, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required; plus 6-8 years of progressively more responsible management experience; and demonstrated leadership, human relations and effective communication skills also required. Master's degree in Business Administration or related area preferred.

Preferences

The ideal ADRI candidate will:

• Have a minimum of 5 years of experience working with startups.
• Have a master's degree in a life science field with advanced degree preferred.
• Have excellent analytical skills and the ability to present written and oral materials in a professional manner.
• Have a strong orientation toward customer service.
• Be self-motivated and require minimal supervision.
• Have entrepreneurial, communications and interpersonal skills.
• Work well in a team setting.
