Job Description

The Missouri University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) at the University of Missouri Kansas City - Institute for Human Development (UMKC-IHD) is a member of a national network of 64 university affiliated programs which receive federal funding to provide administrative support for activities including university education (pre-service education); community education and technical assistance to state agencies, parent education programs, and community service providers; research on disability issues and concerns; dissemination of information about people with disabilities and issues which affect them and their families; and the development of demonstration programs of new service delivery models. All activities have a legislated purpose of supporting the independence, productivity, and inclusion of people with developmental disabilities into the community.

UMKC-IHD announces a search for an Associate Director for the Missouri UCEDD. The Associate Director will work with the Director, Management team and Community Advisory Council to plan, implement and evaluate Missouri UCEDD programs.

The Associate Director:

  1. Advises the Director, Management Team, and Community Advisory Council (CAC) regarding UCEDD program, development, evaluation, and outcomes. Provides program direction, leadership, and supervision to Community Services staff, and assigned graduate assistants and undergraduates.
  2. Provides leadership on community projects, state boards and committees as a representative of the UCEDD and UMKC-IHD at meetings, conferences, workshops, etc., as requested, including high level ad hoc problem solving, advocating for program and community interests, and sharing subject matter expertise.
  3. Plans, conducts, evaluates and presents research, evaluation, and training projects in their discipline.
  4. Builds relationships with current and potential partners, including peer service organizations, funders, and community groups. Serve on federally mandated boards, including the Missouri Developmental Disability Council.
  5. Leads and co-leads in the preparation of grant applications, progress reports, etc. related to the Missouri UCEDD. Develops and maintains individual grant portfolio as a Principal Investigator, including proposal, execution, reporting, operations, deliverables, relationship building, etc.
  6. Organizes and chairs the program's CAC, per federal requirement. Ensures adequate community representation and feedback on the program. Includes recruiting committee members, information sharing with and education for committee members, and regular presentation to the committee.
  7. Participates in, plans for, and teaches some segments of the Interdisciplinary Leadership Training program and other conferences. Guest lectures in classrooms and related education activities to the program and University.
  8. Other duties as assigned.

NOTE: This position is 100% grant funded and is contingent on continued funding. This position may involve travel.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 5 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Strongly preferred qualifications:

  • Master's or Doctoral degree in a related profession
  • At least 2 years in a interdisciplinary setting serving people with developmental disabilities and their families
  • At least 3 years' experience in an administrative capacity, preferably within a UCEDD setting
  • Coordinating interdisciplinary educational programs
  • Teaching and supervision of graduate students

The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience or capacity to complete the below:

  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with people from many professional disciplines
  • Knowledge of interdisciplinary settings and functioning knowledge of collaborative, community-based research and development
  • Ability to work on several different areas concurrently
  • Ability to teach at a university graduate level
  • Skill in communicating clearly/effectively verbally and in writing
  • Knowledge of issues related to cultural competence
  • Knowledge of data management
  • Ability to prepare grants
  • Ability to conduct research/program evaluation
  • Ability to publish

Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as starting at $90,000 annually.

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
