To serve as Associate Editor of Michigan Farm News, researching, reporting and developing timely, relevant agricultural news and feature content for Michigan Farm Bureau members across print and digital platforms. Working within editorial priorities established by the Media Relations Manager and coordinated through the Lead Editor, the position contributes high-quality journalism that informs members about agriculture, industry developments, Michigan Farm Bureau priorities and issues affecting Michigan farmers. The Associate Editor works collaboratively with the Lead Editor, Farm News Media Manager, Member Publications Graphic Designer and other Communications, Marketing and Media staff to support effective content development and publication across print and digital channels.

Research, report, write and develop news and feature content for Michigan Farm News print and digital platforms, producing timely, accurate and engaging agricultural production, business, industry, policy, member and organizational stories that deliver value to Michigan Farm Bureau members.

Execute assigned stories and content priorities in coordination with the Lead Editor, developing appropriate story angles, identifying and interviewing sources, conducting research and moving assignments from development through established editing and publication processes.

Monitor agricultural news, policy developments, production trends, industry issues and member interests to identify potential stories and emerging topics. Bring forward relevant story ideas and recommend opportunities for Michigan Farm News coverage.

Required

Bachelor's degree in journalism, agricultural communications, communications or a related field preferred. An equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience may be considered.
Minimum one to three years of professional experience in writing, journalism, communications, editorial content development or a related field required.
Demonstrated experience developing news, feature or other journalistic content for print and/or digital platforms required.
Experience conducting interviews, researching stories and working with multiple sources to develop accurate and engaging content required.

Preferred
Experience developing agricultural or industry-related content and demonstrated knowledge of agriculture and issues affecting farmers and the agricultural industry preferred.
Experience working within editorial calendars, publication schedules or other deadline-driven content workflows preferred.
Experience with Farm Bureau or another agricultural membership, commodity, trade or advocacy organization preferred.
