Job Description
City University of Seattle's Superintendent Certification Program is seeking an experienced educational leader to serve as a part-time Superintendent Seminar Instructor and Cohort Facilitator.
This position supports superintendent certification candidates through a yearlong developmental sequence beginning with the Pre-Internship Assessment Seminar in the summer and continuing through Reflective Seminars I, II, and III, culminating in the Culminating Seminar and Portfolio Presentation.
The instructor serves as a mentor, facilitator, evaluator, and leadership coach while helping candidates analyze their professional growth and develop capacity for district-level leader.

The Superintendent Seminar sequence engages candidates in analyzing, synthesizing, and evaluating their progress toward mastering the entry-level knowledge, skills, dispositions, roles, and responsibilities of a superintendent. Throughout the program, candidates:
- Develop and refine a professional growth plan
- Analyze leadership strengths and areas for growth
- Examine the complex problem-solving work of the school system CEO
- Engage in professional reflection and systems thinking
- Build a standards-based superintendent certification portfolio
- Demonstrate growth aligned to Washington State and national leadership standards
- Present and defend their completed portfolio before a panel of experienced educational leaders
The seminars incorporate collaboration with experienced superintendents, district administrators, and educational attorneys to connect theory and practice in authentic leadership contexts.
Essential Responsibilities
- Teach and facilitate the yearlong superintendent seminar sequence
- Guide candidates in developing and refining professional growth plans
- Support candidates in developing standards-based certification portfolios
- Facilitate reflective discussions related to district leadership and systems change
- Provide coaching and feedback regarding leadership growth and professional practice
- Evaluate candidate progress toward Superintendent Certification standards
- Coordinate seminar activities and portfolio development expectations
- Support candidates in preparation for the culminating portfolio presentation
- Facilitate and evaluate EDLD 684 portfolio presentations
- Collaborate with superintendent internship field supervisors, mentors, and program leadership
- Foster an inclusive, equity-centered professional learning environment
- Maintain regular communication and timely feedback throughout the program
Requirements
Ideal candidates will possess:
- Washington State Superintendent Certification
- Successful experience as a superintendent or senior district administrator
- Earned doctorate or master's degree in educational leadership or a related field
- Knowledge of the NELP standards
- Experience mentoring or coaching aspiring educational leaders
- Strong facilitation, communication, and relationship-building skills
- Commitment to equity-centered leadership and continuous improvement
- Experience teaching adult learners in online or blended environments preferred
