Position Title: Associate/ Full Professor of English - David A. Burr Chair in Letters, Creative Writing

Qualifications: Applicants should hold an MFA or PhD, or equivalent degree, and demonstrate significant teaching experience. Candidates must have published at least two books of fiction, poetry, or creative nonfiction with a nationally recognized press. The ideal candidate will have a record of national awards or fellowships. The position is a full-time, nine-month appointment with a 2:1 teaching load while holding the endowed position. Salary is commensurate with expertise and experience.

Description: The Department of English in the Dodge Family College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Oklahoma invites applications for a Creative Writer of national distinction and promise at the rank of Associate or Full Professor to hold the David A. Burr Chair in Letters with a target start date of August 16, 2026. We welcome applications from nationally recognized writers working in any genre, including poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction, with additional expertise in areas such as screenwriting or hybrid forms considered an asset. The successful candidate will contribute to our vibrant and growing Creative Writing Program, teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses in creative writing and mentoring emerging writers in a dynamic academic environment. We especially encourage applications from writers whose work expands the range of voices, traditions, and perspectives represented in American and global literature.
